Scampi restaurant has consistently remained one of the most popular restaurants in Agadir, Morocco.
I enjoyed a delicious dinner with my brother two years ago, and we shared a bottle of wine. My starter course of shrimp cocktail could have been better, however, had the shrimp been jumbo or larger in size, but it was still acceptable.
This year, I ordered a grilled sole with al dente mixed vegetables: carrots, green beans and broccoli, with a bit of crisp baby lettuce. When my plate finally arrived, the French fries or pommes frites were lukewarm, slightly oily and not very crisp, even though I told the waiter how I liked them: hot and crispy. I sent the plate back and several minutes later, I enjoyed fairly good crispy pommes frites.
On the other hand, the slices of baguette in the bread basket were cold, so I was disappointed as warm bread would have made another star for this restaurant review. And had the butter been in a separate small bowl or plate and served at room temperature, that would have placed Scampi on a higher level. Instead, I was given one commercial President butter where you have to peel off the foil top.
Gone is the fresh rose on each table. Now the decoration was a faded plastic or artificial flower.
On my most recent trip to Agadir during Ramadan, I discovered that another restaurant that I was considering was closed during the entire month. But when walking by Scampi I observed several tourists eating and drinking beer or wine at outside tables during the daytime, so I decided to eat there later in the evening.
I was one of the first people to be seated inside at a table for two. The place began to fill up within half an hour, but there was only one rushed waiter. He also had to serve people at four or five outside tables. I could see only one chef in the titchen who was very busy preparing many individual meals. I don't know how he managed to cook all the meals. He could have used an assistant.
The place is attractive and has a full bar with cocktails, wines, and ice-cold beers. I ordered one Flag beer, which was cold.
Smoking is permitted outside. I met group of people from Norway and a family who had just arrived from Germany, with a small suitcase and backpacks. They just ordered drinks.
Credit and debit cards are accepted. Reservations are not necessary. While prices have increased a little, Scampi is still affordable and well worth trying during your...
Read moreWas keen to visit this restaurant in Agadir as had walked past several times and it looked really nice. Turned up on evening, restaurant was fairly quiet. Was shown to a nice table inside the restaurant. Chose our food and drinks from the menu - lamb tagine for me and soup and beef tagine for my partner.
When the food arrived it looked and smelled lovely. Was tucking into my tagine when I felt something hard in my mouth. Thinking it was piece of bone from the meat I discreetly took it out of my mind and was absolutely horrified to see that it was in fact a screw about an inch long.
I called over the waiter and gave the screw to him and he took it over to the owner who eventually came over and told me that it was not possible for the screw to have been in my tagine. I quietly pointed out to him that it was actually possible as I had removed it from my mouth. He said the screw didn't smell of sauce. At this point I started to feel quite upset - it seemed the man was calling me a liar. I really couldn't understand his attitude - there was no apology just what felt like an accusation. I couldn't imagine how he could believe that I was lying.
We got up and left, without paying. I was left very upset - not only because of thinking what could have happened - a broken tooth or actually swallowing the screw but also because I was made to feel that I was in the wrong and that I was a liar. A really terrible experience.
I know that sometimes things can go wrong even in the best restaurants but what floored me was the owner's attitude - not one shred of an apology. ...
