I have journeyed through the vibrant culinary landscapes of Morocco twice, savoring dishes at a myriad of establishments, but none have captivated my palate quite like Restaurant Ahlen in Tanger. From the first bite, it was apparent; this establishment is a culinary gemstone amongst the treasure trove of Moroccan gastronomy.
The lamb tajine is unparalleled – the best we have ever tasted in Morocco. The meat was so tender and flavorful, it melted in our mouths, leaving us in awe of the culinary craftsmanship. Accompanied by the freshest seasonal veggies, the dish painted a harmonious tapestry of flavors and textures on our palates.
The service at Restaurant Ahlen is equally exceptional. The staff exudes warmth and friendliness, and their tea-pouring show is a delightful spectacle that adds a special touch to the dining experience. As a fervent football fan, I was thrilled when the owner, showing immense kindness, went out of his way to accommodate my request to screen a match, ensuring a memorable evening.
In addition to the culinary delights and superb service, the value for money at Restaurant Ahlen is simply outstanding. An appetizer of olives, local cheese, bread, two generous portions of succulent lamb tajine, a bottle of water, Moroccan tea, and two delectable homemade biscuits – one almond and the other, I believe, hazelnut – all for just 205 MAD! Such quality and quantity would undoubtedly cost double at any other establishment.
If I could award Restaurant Ahlen an extra star, I would not hesitate. It stands as the epitome of gastronomic excellence and hospitality in Tanger. For anyone seeking an authentic and unforgettable Moroccan dining experience, Restaurant Ahlen is the undisputed choice. Here, every meal is a celebration of flavors, and every moment is infused with Moroccan...
Read moreVisited three times now. Very tasty food. Good portions. Very good and well paced service. Clean, hygienic and tidy, with the appearance of being well run. There are beautiful wall tiles and few quirky boat models that probably have meaning, but am yet to ask. There are a few TVs, which tend to show footie. Some western visitors will no doubt not like so much the enclosed nature of the restaurant - there are no 'views' - but it has a definite sense of Morocco and a 'local feel'. The menu is in multiple languages, which is a sign of brilliantly helpful thinking: it helps one see what the dish is called in Darija - assisting with cultural learning , and this is good. I especially appreciate the tea pouring treat and little 'pastry' at the end of our meals; a nice touch and another sign of effort and thought. My only wish would be for a lot more cooked vegetable (vegan) dish options - please, not 'salads' - but this is the same for almost every cafe/ restaurant in Morocco it seems, so maybe it is unfair to mark down a little (4.5 stars is my choice)? Anyway, the vegetable tajine is fabulously tasty, especially the consistently perfect potatoes - consistency is so important - but the other vegetables are always over-cooked (....again this seems to be a thing in Morocco?). So, on the food front, can we have more veg-only dishes please (ie no animal parts or animal ingredients)? And a few more green olives with the 'tapas' starter/ appetiser please. All in all, Ahlen is a place I very much look forward to visiting; one of the consistently best places to eat in the area: make sure you...

If you think of eating anywhere in tangiers or Morocco in general forget it now if it is not this place. I have eaten here every night since I have arrived. With the greatest atmosphere complimented with the mix of locals and tourists all happy with the greatness of the food this place serves. Everyone is happy and why not when everything (and I mean everything) is amazing on the menu, which is written in four languages (French, Arabic, Spanish and English). I would say try everything. Any of the soups are brilliantly tasty with the mixture of home flavours and small noodles in a broth of enjoyment, order 2 crochets with it for dipping l, this must be done. If spice is needed order the fish. The Trajines and the cuscus are all amazing from the chicken with light tastes of savoury exposé to the beef of greatest meat choices all decorated to taste with raisins, local vegetables and a sauce to die for. You only need to be here for the amazement and if Moroccan food is not your thing they have a few western staples but I still advise a good helping of the local taste. I will be in there tonight again and I hope to raise a glass to our...
