Les jardins de Gueliz — Restaurant in Marrakesh Prefecture

I visited this restaurant in the heart of Gueliz with a number of other ladies and we had a lovely evening. The restaurant is kind of hidden away and one has to know its there to see the small doorway. The ambience in the restaurant was very nice with ambient lighting and warm colors used. A large outdoor area invited to enjoy a warm evening outside but the weather did not permit for that during my visit. The service was THE highlight of the evening, with Khadija, our lead server being funny, engaged, charming and anticipatory to our needs. She was very entertaining, trying to catch up on the many languages spoken around the table (German, French, English, Darija all in the mix). The menu was complete and covered many tastes within the classic French cuisine at a good price level. The food was served quickly and the flow was pretty nice. They either forgot or ran out of my specific choice (aside from the items that were not available already on the menu) and when my plate finally arrived I was rather disappointed about the very small portion size ( also in comparison to the other plates served on my table). I hard ordered the Noisette d'agneau in a garlic cream sauce. The meat was so piping hot, I had to let it stand a little but by that time the lukewarm garlic sauce around it was cold... But the accompanying French Fries were delicious - no vegetable condiment was served though. The other members of my party were happy with their choices and the portion sizes and I did not call out Khadija on it as it did not impact my enjoying the evening, but I wished I did not feel the need for more food after eating my plate. I would return for the Service of Khadija, but not for this specific plate of food... As mentioned before, price/value were overall...

Je suis en général pleine d'enthousiasme lorsque je sors dîner au restaurant le soir, qui plus est avec mon amie qui découvre l'endroit pour la première fois. Accueil chaleureux avec 4 jeunes femmes souriantes. Une fois installés, nous optons pour la formule entrée / plat / dessert à 130 dhs. L'entrée est servie sous forme de buffet, avec une dizaine de salades principalement marocaines. Jusque-là tout va bien. Arrivent ensuite les plats: un steak sauce au roquefort pour moi et un tajine de bœuf aux Coings pour mon amie. De mon côté le plat était bon, la cuisson parfaite. Mais mon amie n'a pas eu la même chance. Elle me fait goûter sa viande supposée être du bœuf, et là je recrache de suite dans une serviette en papier. La viande sentait fort!!! Impossible de dire de quelle viande il s'agissait. Nous appelons la serveuse pour lui signaler qu'il y avait un problème avec la viande du tajine. Nous lui redemandons si c'est bien du bœuf. Elle confirme, reprend le plat et disparaît. Elle revient en présentant la carte de nouveau, sans présenter d'explication ni d'excuse. Mon amie choisi le même plat que moi pour ne pas prendre de risque. Il s'est passé tout simplement 30 minutes avant qu'on ne décident de partir, exaspérés par l'attente. Le gérant et sa compagne sont assis au comptoir. Ils n'ont pas cherché à savoir pourquoi nous quittions la salle alors que nous n'avions pas pris notre formule complète. Je vois bien notre tajine au bord du comptoir et la serveuse qui explique le souci avec la viande. Aucune réaction de la part du patron qui est resté stoïque. Autant vous dire que l'expérience a été gâchée. L'erreur est humaine. Je ne sais pas d'où vient le loupé en cuisine, mais un minimum d'intérêt envers le client aurait rattrapé le coup. Je n'y retourne plus. Et je vous déconseille vivement...

Really nice restaurant, cosy and warm atmosphere, nice garden with cats all around, very French type of kitchen and also lot of French customers frequenting the restaurant.

I would definitely recommend the steak, which is a bit the main dish of the house .. And I also really liked the dessert "poire helene" (called something like that).

It's better if you speak French of course, but its not necessary.

Also, there was a guy entertaining the guests with some magic tricks before we received the dinner and he did not ask for money. It was a nice...
