Unique, colourful, friendly...
The setting: Does not look like much from the street - but enter and you encounter a friendly, colourful, unique and "tasty" world. ...And don't just hang around in the front area of the place. Stroll through to the back where a whole new informal, colourful world awaits with a warm, friendly and homely vibe - decorated in a rustic, "home made" style. And FREE WIFI to boot!
The human connection: One of the biggest impressions we were left with is that this is a happy place. The staff seemed genuinely interested and happy to serve us - attentive and engaged without being overbearing - a very real human connection... This is especially what made this interesting place come alive for us.
The "cuisine": Down-to-earth, honest-to-goodness food that completed this winning combination that is Village Café. We had "specials" that made us relax even more into this sunny & mild winter's day. From the many options we selected Meal 1) a comforting bean soup with a "friendly" piece of "Ma se brood" (Mom's bread) that was great with the soup and almost better with just butter. Meal 2) a perfectly done chicken schnitzel complemented with helpings of crushed potato and coleslaw.
We saw numerous other options which also looked delicious - but you can only eat so much...
The menu even has a proper "pet section" (the place is pet friendly - as long as the owners ensure their furry friends are under control and off the tables...)
NOTE: The honesty in this place runs through everything: On our 1st visit yesterday we only had something quick to drink. When we left I dropped 2 unused mobile phone airtime vouchers valued at almost N$600 on the floor (almost the same as dropping the hard cash). We missed them only when back in the apartment. When I got back to the Café looking for them, there they were lying next to the till/cash register, waiting for me.
We'll be back -...
Read moreThe Village Cafe in Swakopmund is located in the center of town and a good place to enjoy a light meal or grab a cup of coffee at. The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating: the indoor area is cozy, and the outdoor seating is decorated in a colorful village style. A friend recommended that I try the Melkkos (directly translated to Milk Food), a traditional South African sweet dish predominantly made with milk, sugar, flour, and cinnamon. I'm glad I did, because it was delicious! They really did the dish justice as it was sweet and creamy and perfect for a colder day in Swakopmund. Although I only tried the Melkkos, their menu has a nice variety of other dishes as well including some specialty coffees. Initially the service was a bit average, but the manager came over and made the experience better. She was friendly and attentive, and ensured that we had everything we needed. Overall, if you are looking for a café to relax in after exploring what Swakopmund has to offer, I can definitely recommend visiting The Village Café, especially to try...

This includes a cosy open air section at the back. Wether a quick coffee, breakfast or lunch, this is the place to visit. (Weâve experienced all of the above). Staff are extremely kind. Hygiene is excellent with special attention to Covid protocol. Restrooms very clean. The menu is like going on an exciting journey, with many interesting options. Wifi was great. Today is our second visit and we feel like family. Thank you for running this business...
