Tldr; go for the view and atmosphere, everything else is an extra.
If you want a great atmosphere with a great view of the stupa, you should definitely try here. That's the only appeal point for here.
Now for the food itself, I would say the price is kinda reasonable for the amount you get but tastewise, it's more on the bland side of the taste spectrum. You won't be saying anything like 'you remember that place with the bomb menu item', you'll probably remember this place for the view.
For the atmosphere, this one really depends on which seat you get seated on, the edge seats the best one with the upper floors being the best. All the other ones will have people blocking your personal view. If you're able to get an edge seat, be sure to get some wine and get some of those nachos. As for the other menu, they don't specialize on anything so can't really say anything nice of them.
In terms of access, we had to walk up some 4 or 5 flights of stairs iirc. Don't expect any elevators so this place is not wheelchair accessible at all which is such a shame since I know my grandma would love a...
Read moreThis was one of the WORST restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. The staff here have absolutely ZERO sense of hospitality or basic manners. I went with my family (4 people total) and right from the start they completely ignored us. They didn’t even bother asking us to sit, didn’t greet us, nothing. They just tossed the menus on the table and walked away like we were invisible. To make things worse, there were only 3 chairs at the table, and even though they clearly saw we were 4 people, they didn’t bring another chair. I was literally left standing while they pretended not to notice. When I tried to get their attention, they still ignored us. Honestly, it felt like they didn’t care at all if we stayed or left. The staff were unbelievably rude, careless, and unprofessional — it makes you wonder if they even want customers. If this is how they treat families coming to dine, I can’t imagine how they treat anyone else. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration — there are plenty of other restaurants that actually understand what hospitality means. This place is a...
Read moreVisited Gotama Restaurant in Boudha on 10 May 2025 after a sightseeing trip. Sadly, the experience was quite disappointing. There was no warm welcome or greeting upon entry, and the seating area felt neglected—tablecloths were visibly dirty and one chair cover was even wet.
Despite the restaurant not being busy, service was slow. It took around 10 minutes for drinks (lassi) and another 20 minutes for food (sushi, Thai dishes, and momo). While the food initially tasted good, things took a serious turn when I found a cockroach inside my last piece of momo.
When I reported this to the manager, he apologized and said it was a “blunder” due to being busy, and offered a replacement—which I declined. The item was removed from the bill, but the damage was already done.
This raises major concerns about hygiene and pest control. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this restaurant unless serious...
