As someone who lives in Nepal full time, Hotel Lotus Gems is my #1 choice for putting up friends and family visiting Kathmandu. I've stayed there myself, and everyone I know who's stayed there has enjoyed it.||||The hotel is not even a five minute walk from the great stupa, located on a small, but easy to find, back street. As such, it is much quieter than most locations in Boudha. In fact, the biggest noise will be the monks at the monastery next door chanting early in the morning!||||The rooms are beautifully decorated with Tibetan paintings, including a massive mural in the foyer. Tibetan carpets and other accents give you a real himalayan experience. The bathroom is simple, elegant, and well equipt. ||||Breakfast is nothing to write home about, but dinner at the gravity cafe on the rooftop is very nice. The food is delicious, the selection is excellent, and the view of the stupa is stunning. ||||Furthermore, the staff couldn't be nicer!||||Standard issues that affect all of Nepal also plague this hotel, like loose outlets or outlets not working, but unfortunately, this is a Nepal issue, not a hotel issue.||||Recently my dad stayed here on his first ever visit to Nepal. He was completely charmed by it. I highly recommend...
Read moreWe had to wait 3 years to stay at this hotel which we first visited back then for a cup of coffee and fell in love with its look, location and ambiance. It more than lived up to our expectations when we finally got back this year, and were able to stay. We had room 301 which is up at the level of a roof terrace, with fascinating views across Kathmandu and the locality directly round the hotel. The room and bathroom were clean, well equipped and comfortable. The decor of the hotel itself is stunning, echoing the monastery next door. Each day's breakfast was excellent, offering a variety of hot and cold foods. But what really makes this hotel even more delightful is the friendliness, welcome, and efficiency of the staff who are unfailingly polite and helpful, and never miss greeting you when you go out, or come back. Being so near Boudhanath Stupa, the hotel is an excellent base from which to explore the whole Boudha area which offers a fascinating mix of traditional and modern shops and businesses, as well as a number of monasteries which are well worth visiting. On a very practical level, but extraordinarily useful, there is a clothes line on the roof of the hotel where you can hang any...
Read moreI and my four adult children as well as several other family members stayed in Lotus Gems for almost four weeks in April and May of 2025. We loved the hotel and staff so much we even kept our rooms when we went for shorter stays at other properties in Pokhara and Nagarkot. ||We appreciated the amenities and cleanliness of the rooms and the hotel overall. The whole building embodies Tibetan style and is filled with beautiful Buddhist art. The included breakfast offered a generous assortment of healthy and tasty fare. ||We found the staff without exception helpful, friendly and cheerful. Staff offered great sightseeing advice and saved us money by booking set price transportation whenever we needed it.||The hotel location is perfect because it's in a calm Tibetan-inflected area away from the hubbub of Thamel. An excellent benefit is that it's steps away from the awesome Boudhanath Stupa. A lovely rooftop cafe also has a fine view of the stupa. With pilgrims from all over we walked the kora around the stupa every day and at all hours: a cultural and a spiritual experience! ||PS If you stay, don't miss the "Buddha Park", a 7 minute walk...
