10/10. We saw Sun Welcome restaurant while walking along North Lakeside and Mr Krishna waved/smiled at us even when we were just walking along, decided to head there for lunch the next day as it looked like a homey place.
Their restaurant is not as the same before (referring to the previous reviews) so please don't expect the menu to be the same! We asked Mr Krishna what he can make us for today and he recommended the breakfast set with egg and dal bhat. They were both very delicious, hearty, and filling. Along with the hot drinks, our meal for 2 person only costs 460 NPR.
Please do visit and support their business! Their food is so yummy and you get a nice private lunch/dinner at a very cheap price. things to note though, they are an elderly couple so the place is not too fancy, the cooking time takes a while, but you get to stay there for a long time, have some laughs with them, and most of all enjoy the quiet and cozy atmosphere which is the true essence of North Lakeside.
(We'll be back for Dinner so I might leave another review then to update on what else Mr Krishna can bring to the table! :) thanks for reading and do leave a review if...
Read moreThe place is hard to find even with google maps. Once you are within 50 meters, look for sign of sun-welcome up on the hills. There is a small trail leading up to the cafe.
The place is run by old Nepali couple. Went there just to support local business during COVID-19.
The portions are big and menu is reasonably priced. There are few friendly pets (dog and cats) living there. The view of the lake is nice. Recommend for those who are looking for large portions for a reasonable price.
Now bad and ugly parts:
We ordered burger and what we got is potato patty slapped between two pieces of sandwich bread. One of the plate had hair on potato patty so we had to throw it.
I came here to help by dining regularly. However, it seems they don’t welcome Indians so much. The owner had audacity to say that he is doing a favor by offering meals at cheap price.
Well, I don’t need favors so took my business for next two years to juicery cafe, fresh elements, godfather pizzeria and similar places where they don’t judge you by the color...
Read moreDon’t judge the book by it’s cover! This small restaurant is 100% worth going to! The owners are an old couple who have been pioneers in the Pokhara Food Industry. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, they had to downsize to a smaller location. However, their hearts remain as large as the previous restaurant. The main cook (The elderly gentleman, “Krishna”) has traveled to several countries, and can make a variety of food! Their restaurant has been mentioned in a Japanese and French travel guide to Nepal. After eating there, you will certainly see why! It is definitely home-style cooking but fresh and always fulfilling! It is best to go there a day in advance, and tell them what you would like to eat, so that they have everything prepared the next day. If you like supporting small family businesses and delicious food, Sun Welcome Restaurant is the...
