KROAST AMERSFOORT — Restaurant in Amersfoort

It seems my previous, not so raving review, got misplaced. So here's a new one. The owner asked for a second chance, so I went to Kroast again today after almost a year.

Service is still slow. It took the waitress 10 minutes to take my drink order. There were only five tables occupied. She did apologise for the long wait, though. The food I ordered took a good twenty minutes to get served.

I ordered the burger and chips. There's a little salad on the plate that looks dehydrated and the small cuboid carrot cuts were also a little poor looking. A little dressing would have been nice. The chips are the minimalist curved chips you get these days - they're like thick and oblong potato crisps and when you look along them, they look like a C instead of a square. so you actually get a lot less than what it looks like. They make you feel like you got a poor deal. A lot of places have started serving these lately and they're an absolute rip off and IMHO, not worthy of the name "chips" or "fries" Also, the burger is SMALL! When I say small, I mean small. When you lift the top of the bun, the burger is actually smaller than the bun. A lot smaller. Compared to the popular burger places in Amersfoort, this is a children's burger.

Okay food but doesn't provide the family oriented services they advertise.

We specifically booked Kroast on a Saturday evening because they advertise that they provide a person to keep an eye on your kids while you eat. Quite the USP!

But in fact, they didn't. When asked why they said she was ill and, by omission, they couldn't be bothered to find somebody else. So your kids are on there own and the stress free evening you were promised has evaporated.

To add insult to injury they then brought the adult food first, leaving our daughter out. Then brought the children's food after we'd nearly finished eating. Which is obviously the wrong way round.

Food is okay. Not terrible but nothing to write home about. The family oriented concept is welcome but poorly...

Net buiten de binnenstad van Amersfoort, aan de Eem zit restaurant Kroast. Zoals de naam al doet vermoeden is het restaurant redelijk ingesteld op kinderen. Ik zeg redelijk omdat er nog wel over bepaalde dingen nagedacht kan worden. Binnen is een best grote speelplek voor (kleinere) kinderen met een autobaan, treinbaan en ander speelgoed. De kinderen kunnen hier lekker spelen terwijl ouders rustig kunnen lunchen of dineren. Echter kwam mijn zoontje van net 2 jaar ineens terug lopen met een etui vol scharen die hij in de speelhoek had gevonden. “Ja sommige kinderen pakken dingen die ze niet mogen pakken”, was het antwoord van de serveerster toen ik het etui op de bar legde met de uitleg dat dit een beetje gevaarlijk is in een speelhoek waar jonge kinderen spelen. De kaart is redelijk divers, alleen de gerechten voor kinderen vond ik opvallend beperkt. Bij de lunchgerechten stond alleen een tosti kaas. Deze tosti kwam op stevig donkerbruin brood met een flinke portie rauwkost ernaast. Lekker voor een volwassene, maar een peuter kan dit niet op en laat de salade natuurlijk staan. De gerechten voor de volwassenen vond ik trouwens erg lekker. Verder nog een puntje over de verschoonruimte. Die is in t halletje waar ook de wc’s zijn. Als je de verschoontafel uitklapt, kun je eigenlijk de deuren van de wc’s nauwelijks meer open doen. Ook is een poepluier verschonen in een niet afgesloten ruimte niet heel fris natuurlijk. Ik schaamde me een beetje om de luier van mijn zoontje te verschonen daar. Al met al is het zeker een leuke plek om nog eens te lunchen met de kinderen. Maar ik denk wel dat de lunchkaart iets uitgebreider mag voor de kinderen en ook wat meer nadenken over de grootte van de porties. Laten staan is...
