Food: 4/5 ⭐️ Enchilada: 5+/5 ⭐️ Burrito: 5/5 ⭐️ Taco: 4/5 ⭐️ Nachos Sonora: 4/5 ⭐️ Price: 4/5 ⭐️ Service: 4/5 ⭐️
On my second visit to this establishment, I found that the ambiance and service continued to be fairly standard – nothing particularly noteworthy, but comfortable enough for a casual dining experience.
The highlight here is unquestionably the food, which stands a notch above the ordinary. We started with the Nachos Sonora, which, while bursting with flavor, fell short in portion size, especially as a dish advertised for two. The toppings, too, were on the scantier side, which was a bit of a letdown.
Moving on to the main course, the Combinacion Alfonso's was a mixed bag. The taco was average, failing to make much of an impression. However, the enchilada and burrito were a different story altogether – absolutely divine. These dishes alone make the restaurant worth visiting, elevating the overall culinary experience.
So, while it doesn't quite hit the five-star mark for me, it's definitely a solid choice for good food. I'll surely be back, and I'd recommend giving it a try if you're in the mood for some tasty Mexican cuisine with a few...
Read morefirst of all, someone reviewing this restaurant said the portion was small...i, VERY much, disagree...besides it being good...better than i expected...the chicken chimichanga i had was absolutely not 'small'...there is a 'mexican' restaurant in Haarlem, which i will not name...if you want to know what a small portion is...go there... my experience at Alfonso's yesterday was exTREMEly pleasant from the moment i walked in the door and was warmly greeted... after ordering, the food came within a very reasonable amount of time...and i was surprised at all that was included...a very nicely spiced rice, smashed beans, guacamole, sour cream...in other words a full plate of food without having to order any of these as a 'side dish', which many restaurants here would require... the price, i thought, was extremely reasonable...and the atmosphere 'low key'/quiet...which i appreciated...i wouldn't hesitate to go there again... it's located very close to Rembrandtplein on Utrechtsestraat 29... very close to a few tram stops... i definitely recommend...
Read moreThis was some of the most underwhelming food I’ve ever received at a restaurant. I can’t believe that there are so many good reviews- it is genuinely mediocre at best. The decor of the restaurant is really poor, the food lacked any flavour, and it just feels like a tourist trap. On a positive note though- the owner was very friendly.
My frozen margarita didn’t have any citrus flavour-just a small lemon slice in crushed ice and alcohol (I think made with vodka and not tequila). The vegetable fajitas consisted of some random canned veg (baby corn, jalepinos, corn kernels, mushrooms), and canned beans with some cumin. For €16 you only get three tortillas and not enough salsa (not fresh) or guacamole to use in them. My boyfriends chimichanga looked like a frozen microwave version and also lacked any flavour. Really would suggest going...
