Axum Restaurant — Restaurant in Amsterdam

We made a reservation on Wednesday for Friday evening. We were well received but that’s where it ended.

We waited TWO AND A HALF hours for our food which never came, however every other party that come in after us did receive their order. We decided to leave, which you obviously would after waiting that long for food, this had “surprised” the waitress. Whom also had the AUDACITY to tell us that we “can take your food with you if you will” - absolute disgrace.

“Sorry for the wait” - came after we waited for an hour, a second round of drinks came in after an hour and forty five minutes… really terrible service to be honest.

We did place a reservation for a reason, I mean generally speaking people go to restaurants to be seated and eat there, but whatever.

Let’s just say that Taytu is lucky that a 1-star rating is the lowest rating on this service. It was, simply put, appalling.

I won’t be recommending this place nor will I set foot in this place again.

P.S.: They even made us pay...

The vegetarian platter was delectable. The cubed lamb in the entree was a bit dry. We would order only the vegetarian or the chicken next time. Service was inattentive. We were there for 11 minutes before offered anything to drink. We watched an employee wash and dry dishes wen he could have been bringing us water. The staff was pleasant, and an elder offered me his hand when I took the 3 steps into the dining room. He appeared to be owner or manager or both. Nice touch. I gave it 4 stars because it's new and I think it'll be great when they speed up the service. The lady who brought out our food was welcoming. Horrible experience. We were a group of 9 people and called in advance to ask if they could prepare gluten free teff injara as one person was coeliac. They confirmed on the phone this will not be a problem but after our arrival did not remember. The communication was incredibly difficult and they were very rude. We waited 20 minutes to be seated and afterward waited for 2 hours to receive the food. Drinks only arrived after 1 hour. We received a really annoyed response when we asked for second round of drinks. We have been to many ethiopian places before and absolutely loved them but would not recommend Taytu to anyone and will...
