Brasserie Gossler and florin replaces the old Daalder in the Jordaan district.
Interior was dark and sleek but there was only one other table that night so wasn’t extremely vibey.
Foods:
Kokkels / Peterselie / Knoflook - clams with a tomato sauce - a generous portion with tasty sauce. Make sure to order the bread and butter to soak up the sauces
Salad G&F - Herring roe / chicken / crispy chickenskin / croutons - was a little disappointed in this dish, had a lot going on and didn’t feel the hard chicken texture went well with the salad
**note to chef - main dishes came out luke warm / cold. I feel the dishes would have been so much better if they were hot!
Risotto - Parmesan / wild garlic/ blackberry - added Black truffle for 8 euros - flavors were nice but expected some black truffle shavings for the extra money. I didn’t really taste any truffle taste :/
Doversole - Sea vegetables / Spinach / Sauce normande - I enjoyed the dish and the sauce was nice - just wish it came out hot
Dessert - caramel flan - wasn’t too impressed with the presentation but it tasted really yummy. Not too sweet and the caramel hit the spot
++dog friendly
I know y’all are still newish so I hope you...
Read moreWas excited to try G&F and with a few tweaks, it could be great. The food is actually pretty good and the chef seems to know what he's doing.
So where does it go wrong?
1 - They've done a nice job with the decor, but the (many) lights are far too bright. It immediately kills the ambience. Change and reduce the bulbs!
2 - The service is what really lets it down. Our waiter was nice but not very competent. He needed constantly asking to top up our wine, which he also spilled twice in the process (without even noticing). He couldn't make any description or recommendations of champagne or wine. He knew nothing about the food, and couldn't explain the menu.
The place was near empty on a thursday night, which is unheard of in the Jordaan. But after experiencing the above, I now get it. Hopefully with a few new lightbulbs and an overhaul of staff training, this place will find...
Read moreAs big fans of its sister restaurant, Daalder, we were keen to try out Gossler & Florin, which now occupies Daalder's original location on the Lindengracht. We were absolutely not disappointed. The interior is cosy and elegant, yet buzzing and welcoming, and the staff are friendly and attentive. But the real stars of the show are the dishes, which are probably best described as French with unexpected twists. Everything that arrived at the table was delicious, but the standout dishes were the clams, North Sea crab cocktail, stuffed dover sole, chicken with mushrooms, caramel and hazlenut panacotta and - still salivating - the oversized lemongrass macaron..... Highly...
