We love going to improv shows and I get that bad nights happen.
But we really regretted our choice to go to "The good, the bad and the algorithm” show. Part of it is the expectation that they will incorporate technology like asking chatGPT something or as they said taking our info and doing something with it. Unfortunately, the show is scripted and the robot stopped responding to the prompts during the show. I think there is a real chance to use technology and AI in improv and it is a good idea to explore. However, pretending to use AI as a topic for a show without using it felt like we'd been taken in for a tourist trap.
The Ameri-caca song was repetitive and also the one time in Amsterdam I didn't feel welcome as an American. If you are in Amsterdam and interested in travel and learning from others you are less likely to be the racist, homophobic, gun loving people they were singing about in the song. Since most of the audience was from the US the song felt as if you were laughing at us instead of with us. Highly recommend the song be cut or work on making it wittier.
I think the cast was quick thinking and talented - definitely professionals who work hard on their craft. Other shows would very likely be good. However, if its between this and something else I recommend choosing the something else.
Edit: I like the owners reply to my comment below more than the show. I stand by my feelings of how this specific night felt but we would be willing to go back and give it another chance because the talent and wit is...
Read moreI saw the improv here the other night. Amazing venue with great staff, but it was easily the worst performance I have ever seen of ANYTHING in my life. It quickly became obvious why at the beginning when they asked “who has visited before?” only about 6 people jeered. Especially as you are expected to part with €20 for the show!
The improve “games” were so weak to the point they were non existent. In the 45 minutes that I managed to sit through before walking out, they took three suggestions from the audience: Drugs, Helicopter and Threesomes. Usually, a good improve troop would laugh off the unoriginal suggestions and invite something better. But nope. Not here!
The helicopter suggestion led to one of them delivering a 10 minute monologue loosely themed around helicopters; with no interruptions or tag-outs. No suggestions of objects, or place of work, or emotions from the audience. No joke. It was THAT bad. Other games literally involved them talking with no suggestions (or jokes) whatsoever.
It wasn’t all bad. The lady with blonde hair was clearly talented and very funny. But I felt bad that she was limited by the talent and format of the show.
Tips for the future… go and watch some other improv! Even just ONE episode of Whose Line is it Anyway? would help. Play some games instead of JUST TALKING at the audience. Given that the Comedy Store Players in London (admittedly one of the best places for improv comedy) is a similar price - this was...
Read moreWe went to go see the pro wrestling match this evening. It was awesome! Location of the venue was easily accessible, clean, and pleasant to be in. We purchased tickets for 63 euros the vip first row balcony with drink service. These which were quite a bit more expensive than all other tickets. The seats were good, but I would not say that they were even the best seats in the house. The chairs were pushed together so tightly that each seat touched the next. This gave each guest very little personal space and made it difficult to get up when or if needed. The drink service was also disappointing. Drink service consisted of a waitress (or waiter) coming to take your drink order at your seat; however it was very difficult getting the waitress' attention, despite having little lights which shone red when you needed service.
At our event, there was also merch being sold and you could take photos with the talent. Unfortunately the photos and merch table were placed right in front of the coat rack, the exit, and the bathrooms. This made getting in and out of the theatre very difficult, and made buying merch or taking photos quite annoying as well.
Overall, I had a wonderful time and I will be returning to this venue. However, there are a few points which could definitely be improved upon...
