I had high expectations but the food was just ok. The Pesto La Vista was interesting, I would describe it as savory French toast. I liked it. But my sister ordered the Som-Tams Gotta Give, which was a Thai salad that was absolutely horrible. Best was to describe it was raw vegetables in a layer of vegetable water. It doesn’t look or taste appealing. Very bland and hard to eat with all the big chunks. The peanuts were raw and so were the green beans. I would take this off the menu. You can’t sell this rabbit meal for 16 euros. We did tell the waiter very kindly and she said she’d tell the kitchen. But we didn’t get any feedback or compensation. I honestly felt a bit robbed with those prices. The girl sitting next to us had the tacos and said they were just ok.. too much sauce she said. It’s also very busy and loud so you can barely hear each other which I wouldn’t mind as much if the food were great. Sorry! I was really excited about coming here but left disappointed.

I had high expectations coming here being recommended by a work colleague. The place looks nice, it has nice music, not too loud and the staff is very friendly. We were in a group of four and until we ordered everything was very good. The drinks came not long after and the coffee and fresh juices were also good. From there on, it was just a disappointment. The food came 40 minutes later, blunt, without any taste. I ordered the, 5 euros for 3 pieces, pork belly and that simply was tasteless. Out of 4 eggs, 3 were overcooked to the point of getting one poached extra for free that finally had the yolk running. They were nice enough to not charge us for the coffees as it took so long for the food to come but unfortunately that does not make the food taste any better. It is really a shame, I have tried most brunch places around east and wanted to have another option other than bakers and roasters to go to, unfortunately not box sociaal :(

Imagine Steve Irwin was really into pancakes instead of pangolins and other random bush animals—and he was also half Dutch. That’s what box sociaal has on offer, a great mix of food to combines Dutch produce with Ozzie flavors and flair. Pancakes were more cake than fluffy but still very good. The breakfast bun bread was so so, a bit too flimsy. The chicken and waffle combo was a godsend. Half way through breakfast the electricity cut out so we were given our bill early, we hoped that the inconvenience would mean we got at least one coffee on the house but when you mix Dutch and Ozzie culture, you do mix a lack of chique with a tightly held purse. That being said, the staff was all super kind and the coffee was tasty. The only thing that makes no sense to me is the name of the place, so I hereby suggest a rename to Steve’s pangolin pancakes.

It was a nice breakfast. The mortgage on toast was a bit mediocre, but then again to be fair, there isn’t much you can do to jazz up avo and toast. Coffee was also ok. Just coffee not the best and also not the worst. My husband had the kater sandwich and he really enjoyed it. Said it was flavorful and a great sandwich. Very filling as well. The staff was awesome, so friendly and food came out at a quickly and hot. Drinks also came quickly, but at no point did we feel rushed. The atmosphere was relaxed and cosy. Will definitely go back to try other items on the menu; still can’t think why I went with the mortgage on toast. Also the bill wasn’t high, average prices when compared to other places I’ve been in the wider Amsterdam areas. PS the crispy rostis were awesome!!!!!! Wanted to order more
