" It seemed as if it would be impossible to design a memorial for the site of the urn containing ashes of the victims murdered in Auschwitz concentration camp to be laid to rest in Dutch soil. How can you devise a form to mark a crime which you know in your heart will till be unforgiven when our planet ceases to exist two, or two thousand centuries from now? To attempt to find an image to reflect the ignominy and the suffering transcends the limits of your comprehension. When you look up at the sky it is impossible to imagine the same sun shining over that destruction as indifferently and peacefully as over a meadow filled with flowers. In a vision of justice the blue sky above you cracks apart as if the horrors that took place on earth below have desecrated eternity forever. That is what led me to place these broken mirrors on that small plot of ground above the urn. Here you will never again see the heavens reflected undesecrated. - Jan Wolkers - 1977 "

I can't decide. 1 hand, any monument for thus is deserved but why this spot?

As An Auschwitz Monument, u cant help feel it in your soul, to know you've lost so much potential in your own family because of that place so I'm all for shoving it in peooles faces.

NEVER FORGET

Right now, you can feel the hate in the air directed towards this monument. Like it's annoying and a bother but to me, anyone who complains just shows their colors.

(I came unlnowingly to Amsrerdam on the day b4 the Holocaust Museum Opened, it's not exactly wanted here by a select group and that made things a bit crazier that day just from people going to and from the protest)

Not sure why anyone is against a ww2...

Walking through the peaceful Wertheimpark, you come across the Auschwitz Memorial, which immediately makes you pause and reflect on why and how such tragedy could happen. The monument, also known as the Spiegelmonument, is dedicated to Dutch Jews. Six shattered mirrors reflect the sky, symbolizing that heaven will never be the same after Auschwitz. A glass panel reads Nooit Meer Auschwitz (“Never Again Auschwitz”), beneath which lies an urn containing ashes of victims.

This is a glass memorial that is a reminder of the loss of Jewish life during World War 2. Underneath the broken glass is a container with ashes of the victims. The chiselled words states: "never again Auschwitz." During the 90's the monument has heen vandalised mulitiple times but been restored again and again. To pay respect, visitors leave a stone on the memorial.
