My Favorite Amsterdam Brown Café: Eetcafé De Doffer Finding an authentic spot in a tourist-heavy area like the Nine Streets can be a challenge, but I've found the perfect answer: Eetcafé De Doffer. This place is more than just a café; it's a piece of Amsterdam history. De Doffer has been a traditional, cozy "brown café" since the 1970s, and you can feel that history the moment you step inside. It has the best kind of diverse clientele—a lively mix of Amsterdammers and visitors—that truly makes it a popular meeting place with a genuine, vibrant atmosphere. But here’s the best part: Unlike some traditional pubs, De Doffer delivers a surprisingly good lunch and dinner menu! This is not just pub grub; you can count on a delicious meal. Whether you’re stopping by in the winter to cozy up inside with a great beer and dinner, or you're enjoying the summer sun on their excellent terrace right on the bustling Runstraat, De Doffer welcomes everyone. If you’re exploring the heart of the city and need a delicious meal in a truly classic Amsterdam setting, make a stop at De Doffer.

Came here for an afternoon drink and snack and decided to order a Dutch apple pie and two glasses of rosé. The apple pie was of normal quality and actually a little wet'ish. It was like the pie sat in the fridge for too long when to the point it gets quite soggy. The rosé was of normal quality. Location is beautiful in a old Dutch street with plenty of international shops. The Bartender on shift was as Dutch as you can get a Dutchie and service was normal for a pub. The toilet was quite dirty, had no hand soap available and was out of tissues. Overall not a bad experience, but there are definitely better pubs in the area.

I'm reluctant to write a review for this little gem of a bar, simply because I really want to keep it as my secret ..However, whenever I visit Amsterdam I , along with my wife make sure we visit De Doffer. A small but traditional bar, which sells a small but good selection of very good beers and serves simple but good food. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful .When the weather suits, you can sit outside and watch Amsterdam pass you by..but shhh! It's my secret ..

Late lunch on a Friday. Good tap beers. Outdoor covered seating as well as in door. Had an excellent burger, well seasoned and juicy. Took 15 minutes but well worth the wait. In a world of generic burger patties, it is a welcome change to have handmade and seasoned burgers of quality beef. Chef knows what he is doing. Garnishes of pickles and tomato etc good too. Chips on the side were excellent. The feta salad also worth a mention, large portion with home made dressing, and plenty of feta, roasted capsicum and...
