Situated on the corner of Prinsengracht and Oude Looiersstraat, La Tertulia is one of the city's original coffee shops. It takes its name from the Spanish word which translates as "The Salon".

Resembling a botanical greenhouse, the interior is shrouded with plants. Continuing the voyage of discovery, there are large crystals and meteorites, creating a mystical ambience in a calm, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The coffee shop has three levels. Upstairs is an internal balcony area offering a great view of the premises and the canal beyond. There is seating at the entrance level and, when the weather is warm, a small outside terrace on either side of the building. The 'dispensary' is on the lower ground floor, where you can order tea, coffee, freshly squeezed juice, ice cream milkshakes, snacks and sandwiches. They also do a wicked weed brownie.

Run by a mother and daughter combo, this place has a good reputation for their taste in music and for the consistent quality of produce on offer. The cannabis menu is limited to a handful (possibly plus a couple of fingers) of products, but these are of high quality and, be warned!, sometimes of high potency. There are pre-rolled joints for those who can't be bothered to roll their own.Higher indulgences can be satisfied with the waterpipe vaporiser.

Whereas nearly every coffee shop closes at 1AM, there are two notable exceptions in the city centre being: La Tertulia which closes at 7PM and Grey Area....

I’ve been to Amsterdam many times, and as a tourist visiting a coffee shop you tend to expect a little bit of friction if you’re not familiar with the process even if you’re a regular smoker.

The staff in here were so welcoming and friendly as I came in. It’s a very laid-back place with plenty of respectful and relaxed customers.

Quality of product is also great. As a smoker in the UK I’m used to getting unnecessarily strong stuff, but here you can tell immediately that’s it’s top quality in terms of flavour profile and effect. Would highly recommended the ‘Galactic gelato?’ (Might be wrong but it’s the product at the top of the menu).

Not sure on the negative reviews because you can tell by the setup that this is a comfortable and authentic place and if the vibe isn’t your fancy it might be because you’re not fitting with the vibe. Otherwise it might have just been a bad day!

Final say is if a coffeeshop has plenty of plants inside you know you’re...

A quiet little coffeeshop outside of the city center. I've been twice over the last 7 years (2007 and 2010) and it was always a positive experience. The floor level feels dense with plants and books, similar to a cozy den. The upper level (mind the steep metal stairway ;-) ) is open and airy, with games on the tables and views of the neighboring canal. The cannabis is mid-range in my opinion, but will not disappoint! Fresh juice and snacks (best toastie around!) are readily available, but don't expect over the top friendly service. These ladies seem to be all business, but make no mistake, they certainly care for their customers. I've felt more than welcome as a non-local, don't be afraid to stop in! If you're looking for a change from the packed and loud downtown coffeeshops, this place is for you. I'm counting the days until...

Dankest of the Dank. This place I stumbled onto when hunting for a WC, desperately needing a toilet. That's not a joke, I had a serious need for one after lunch ;). After relieving myself I got a coffee and a joint. (I had just learned that it's actually suggested and preferred that you get a coffee and a joint, not only a cup of joe.) So that I did, whipped out my laptop and smoked one while getting through a few hours of work. *The Wifi is fast. This place has the chillest vibe. Plants everywhere, seriously good-vibe tunes đŸŽ¶ gently playing in the background, and only about 10-15 people hanging out inside. It doesn't feel too pack and it doesn't feel crowded; I'm sitting here on a Tuesday @14:00. Oh, and did I mention they have board games! Drop by this cute corner cafe. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

My wife and I were so delighted to find this little coffee shop. The atmosphere is so beautiful and calming with lots of plants and natural stone. This shop seems to largely be run by women, which we also lovely. The food was yummy, the joints did the job and didn’t cause me to cough, yay! We would come here mid-day as a break after our morning exploring to sit, people watch, and do a crossword together. Hope to come back someday when we return to Amsterdam.

One of the only Smokey coffee shops we found that served a tasty selection of food that wasn't just pringles and chocolate bars. We stayed for a few smokes and a toasty each (which was amazing) we sat outside In front of the amazing murals and inside when it started to rain, the staff were so friendly and multilingual, my partner is greek and so we're the owners and we were treated super nicely. Beat coffee shop in Amsterdam!
