Situated on the site of a former Peugeot garage, Antiekcentrum Amsterdam, with 1750 square meters (18,800 square feet) of floor space, is Netherlands's largest indoor market for antiques. Inside is a maze of passageways with numerous dealers and display cabinets offering everything from bric a brac to precious antiques. It has entrances on both Elandsgracht and Lijnbaansgracht and is open daily, with the exception of Tuesdays.
It was largely due to the centre's owner and a number of legal challenges that set the scene for the go-ahead of Sunday shopping in the Netherlands.

The number of goods on offer is huge, everything from chandeliers, clocks, collectables, curiosities, furniture, jewellery, militaria, mirrors, porcelain, posters, tins, tobacciana, toys, vintage clothing, weapons and watches. Haggling is a must if you want to get the best price. Most dealers are able to arrange shipping if required.
The stalls are not always attended, in which case there are strategically placed bells to summon assistance from a member of staff. A cosy cafe on the premises offers light meals, snacks and refreshments.
At weekends, there is a separate area full of individual tables from private sellers. For those wanting to sell their own goods, these can be rented at a very reasonable charge. During the Summer, there is sometimes an outdoor street market on the Elandsgracht.
A visit to the centre is like stepping through history and one definitely needs several hours to take...
