Decided at the last minute to switch from a more expensive international chain to this locally owned gem and we were SO happy with our decision. The location is just about perfect as you are within a 20 minute walk to anything in Amsterdam but are well away from the dirtier streets with less authentic chain stores and restaurant. The large windows provide views to two canals and the bustling, more local side of Amsterdam. We spent hours just sitting in the comfy chairs provided watching local life go by sipping on the wine and champagne provided by the lovely local Dutch host, Roeland. Roeland himself clearly has experience in the hospitality industry and was always responsive to any query or request we had for him. The room itself (caiman) was much more impressive in person than in the pictures… generously sized with tons of natural light and perfect canal views. He provided daily room cleaning as well as some snacks, water, and some wine, beer and bubbles that were replenished at no cost. There are also some nice personally touch’s like a handwritten message and fresh flowers through the unit. Several requests for local tips were answered quickly and honestly. If you want to feel like a local amsterdammer with a great room and great service,...
Read moreBest part was Roland who runs the place. He was super helpful at every level. Getting us transportation from/to the airport, acting as our Concierge to help us figure out where to go, where to eat, getting us tickets for things, making reservations. He even biked over to where we were eating to deliver our passports that we had forgotten in our room that we needed for going to a particular attraction! And it was cold outside!||||The location is amazing. Its right in the middle of things on a beautiful small street with a canal. So its really quiet, lovely and easy to walk or catch transport to anywhere in the city. ||||The room was large and very comfortable as was the bed. (We were on the 4th floor in The Bird's Room). Its nice and warm (in the winter) yet it had really nice windows that you could open to get fresh air (we like it cool at nite).||||I had some concern with the fact that its on the 4th floor, no elevator and we're now in the "elderly" category and not particularly fit. Roland completely took care of getting our baggage up and down the stairs. And we were able to come and go without too much strain. So it ended up not being a real problem.||||I would highly recommend Canal House at The Tannery for anyone wanting to have a base to...
Read moreWe stayed at The Tannery during the first week of October, 2024, and had a wonderful time. Our room (the Bird room) was very large with a great view of the city. The Tannery has a fantastic location just off the Prinsengracht in the Jordaan neighborhood. I don't think there's any part of Amsterdam that we enjoyed more than Jordaan -- a beautiful area that's not too crowded and not full of rowdy tourists, but still very lively and with an abundance of good places to eat and drink.||The true star of the Tannery is Roeland, the host. Roeland is like your best friend in Amsterdam. He was amazingly nice and very helpful, providing us with great suggestions for dining (even getting us into a restaurant that was fully booked). He also helped us with our luggage on the steep stairs (the Bird room is at the very top of the canal house), which we really...
