The pancakes were good and I would recommend it to people who want to try Dutch pancakes. Although the place is small, I like its cozy atmosphere and the interiors. However, my friend and I did not have a good experience with one of the servers. When we got to the restaurant, the place was full and we were second in line to be seated. We were told to wait 5 - 10 minutes. This was completely understandable and we did not mind waiting 10 minutes. However, what disappointed us was how our server had no interest in seating us. Within 3 minutes of our arrival, two tables left, freeing one space by the entrance. I saw the male server cleaned both tables and thought we would be served soon. To our disappointment however, our female server thought cleaning the counter surface, the menus and her nails were more important. About 10 minutes later, the people in front of us finally got seated and we thought we'd just get the space by the entrance soon, since it's been cleaned for a while already. We expressed to our server that we just wanted to sit down if the space is not reserved and were told (rudely) to wait for her to clean the table. She then cleaned the caps of all the condiments as well as the condiment tray which looked fine from the beginning. My friend and I don't think we did anything wrong but felt like we were getting the "attitude". We weren't shy about our frustration when there was a clean table ready for us, but we felt that the waiter could not care less and just performed her tasks as slow as she can to avoid seating us. To conclude, it's a decent place but not...
Read moreThere was a line to get in but it moved at a steady pace and was fine. The service inside was all over the place. We were seated along with the couple behind us in line. They placed an order after a few minutes, but it took us forever to finally flag someone down so we could do the same. Our food was slow to come out, and we had similar issues with getting the bill and paying. We'd ask for something, would get acknowledgment, and then were forgotten. The couple who came in with us ended up getting their food much later than us because their order somehow went missing. Our pancakes finally arrived and were totally bland, the sort of bland where even a little salt and pepper would have made a huge difference.
Most egregious, however, is something we saw during one of our many waits. Two Japanese men entered and gave a slight bow to the server before heading to their table. The male server gave a mocking bow once the men's backs were turned, looked around and laughed, then did it again. None of the other staff told him to stop being a d*ck. In what I'm sure was a coincidence, the forgotten couple was Indian, my party had someone with a Hispanic background, and everyone else in the restaurant was white.
So, 5 stars if you're pale and think salt is the devil. Otherwise, try one of the many other pancake restaurants...
Read moreSmall and cute space but most of the staff were too busy chatting to really serve you. We overheard a staff person finally tell the girls to stop chatting and serve the guests. After ordering several dishes and teas/smoothies we asked for some tap water and were told they don’t have tap water…??? Yet right behind us was the coffee station with sink and faucet and a tap indicating still, sparkling or hot. So you’re forced to pay almost €4 for a type of water that’s not even bottled but comes from a tap….a bit cheeky as Amsterdam has amazing water and if we’re already spending €20+ on drinks as is, tap water shouldn’t be an issue. We have asked for tap water at every establishment we’ve gone to and never had an issue. The hotel we stayed at even encourages their guests to drink tap water stating the water is so good here and it saves on plastic and glass bottles.
The American waffles with yogurt and granola was very good but the Dutch pancakes were disappointing. There was a funny taste to them and our son became sick before finishing his meal and my stomach was equally upset afterwards for most of the day. We had not eaten or drank anything beforehand either. Once my son 🤮 he felt 100% better so we know it was something in the food that bothered him and not an illness.
Not overly impressed with...
