A Shocking Experience of Racism in Amsterdam – June 19, 2025
I never expected to encounter blatant racism in a city as multicultural and progressive as Amsterdam—but sadly, that’s exactly what happened.

My friends and I were denied entry based solely on our skin color. While others were freely entering and being served, we were vocally and deliberately excluded. One staff member even said, “I’ll make sure you don’t get served,” before physically pushing us around in a clear attempt to intimidate and humiliate.
It was only after we raised the issue with another staff member—who treated us with basic human decency and served us—that the original individual came over to issue an apology. However, it was clear that he only did so because we had taken pictures and were prepared to document what had happened.
As a brown person, these situations are unfortunately not unfamiliar. But this time, I’m choosing not to stay silent.
This review is for others who might go through similar experiences—to let you know you are not alone. And it’s for those who perpetuate or excuse this kind of behavior: Do better.
