Do not stay at this hotel if you don't want to ruin your vacation. My husband and I went on vacation to Amsterdam, and after spending a few days in a very good hotel, Krasnapolsky, right on Dam Square, we decided to move to the boutique hotel 717, after reading positive reviews on Booking, although I still don't understand who could write positive reviews about this hotel, which absolutely does not meet the level of 5 stars. We booked the hotel for two nights, non-refundable, and when we arrived at the hotel, we were checked into a room right by the front door, with a small reception table in the narrow hallway outside our door. We were just shocked by what we saw. We entered the room, and the first thing I did was open the closet, where we found electrical panels. The room was very noisy, you could hear everything happening on the street and in the hallway because this hotel has absolutely no soundproofing, and the windows are very old and thin, with only one pane. Plus, right outside your window is the hotel entrance and front door, which guests slam every five minutes. The room itself was very dusty, dirty, dark, with a low-ceilinged bathroom that smelled like sewage. A couple of bottles of cheap cosmetics is what you'll find in your room for 500 euros a night. There's no reception, no lounge, nowhere to sit, and steep stairs on which you'll have to drag your suitcases to the room. When we said it was impossible to live and relax in this room, we were offered earplugs. We asked to change rooms, but the manager said it was impossible, as the hotel was fully booked for both nights. So, we decided to return to the Krasnapolsky hotel and arranged with the manager that they would refund us for the second night. The next morning, we checked Booking and saw that two rooms were available, meaning they could have moved us the next day but didn't want to. That evening, both rooms were sold, meaning our room was sold twice. When we called them the next day and asked for a refund as promised, they refused and said they had every right to sell our room twice and would not refund us because we were rude to them, which wasn't true. We contacted Booking and found out that the hotel manager had pulled a scam and set up the situation as if we were no-shows, canceled the booking, and now we can't leave a review on Booking. Honestly, we haven't encountered such lousy treatment from a hotel in a long time, and it seems to us that this hotel uses its high rating on Booking to scam clients and sell...

Dear Hotel 717 Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful experience we had during our recent stay at your establishment. Hotel 717 truly exceeded our expectations and provided us with an unforgettable home away from home in the vibrant city of Amsterdam.

From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were enveloped in an ambiance that made us feel as though we were visiting cherished family. The warm and inviting atmosphere, combined with the genuine friendliness of your staff, instantly put us at ease. It was evident that every member of your team is dedicated to creating an atmosphere of comfort and belonging.

Our stay at Hotel 717 felt more like a visit to a beloved family home rather than a traditional hotel. The attention to detail and the personalised service we received truly set you apart. The thoughtfulness of your staff, who went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met, made a significant impact on us. It was heartening to experience such genuine care and hospitality.

We were also thoroughly impressed with the impeccably maintained facilities and the tasteful decor that added to the overall charm of the hotel. Every corner seemed to exude a sense of history and elegance, creating an ambiance that was both soothing and inspiring.

As we bid farewell to Hotel 717, we do so with a heavy heart, but also with the anticipation of returning next year. We are already looking forward to reuniting with the wonderful "family" you have created and reliving the exceptional experience that you offer. It is without a doubt that Hotel 717 has become our preferred choice for accommodation in Amsterdam, and we eagerly await the opportunity to create more cherished memories within your welcoming walls.

Once again, thank you for providing us with an exceptional stay. Your dedication to excellence and the warm sense of belonging you provide truly make Hotel 717 a remarkable gem within the city. Until our next visit, please accept our sincere appreciation and...

Hotel 717, among many others, excels in providing exceptional guest service. We had booked this hotel six months ago. After disembarking from the cruise around 9 a.m., we decided to check in and relax at the hotel. We arrived at 9:30 a.m. and were greeted warmly by a friendly front desk agent. He promptly assisted us with our luggage and guided us through the check-in process. He informed us that our room was ready, but our friends’ room would be ready soon. Since we were early, he offered us breakfast, which we enjoyed outdoors. The waiter was friendly and efficient, ensuring that our time was well-spent while waiting for our friends’ room.

To pass the time, the front desk recommended canal rides with the Kinboat company. We took advantage of this and had a fantastic experience. Upon returning, we sought restaurant recommendations. The agent suggested Mayur Indian cuisine, which we tried. It was delicious, especially the group meal. While it was a bit pricey, it was worth every penny.

Anyhow, the hotel 717 has a lot of characters. You are talking about 400 years old building. When you enter, don't expect 3-5 front desks with their kiosk. Don't expect a huge area where you can play hide and seek. Expect an area where you will be greeted immediately and no long lines such as Marriott or Holiday Inn. The hallway is very narrow. Enough to stretch both arms. We stayed in Room 18. I like the stairs very much. It was a dangerous stair that you always had to pay attention to. Narrow and always stay on the right side if you can. If your drunk all the time and obese guests, don't dream of it. You want to enjoy your vacation in the scenic area not at the hospitals. Our room had a back view. We heard a little bit of noise but tolerable. The beds were always made after breakfast and before bedtime. Overall, our stay at Hotel 717...

While my experience was pleasant overall, it didn’t meet my expectations. The room was disappointing. The bathroom amenities were minimal, with only soap, lotion, two glasses, and bath napkins. Oddly, the glasses were placed on the table without a cap or mat, which felt careless. The bathrobes and towels were okay, but nothing special—just “average plus.” Additionally, the taps in both the shower and sink were designed in sharp squares, which were uncomfortable to use. Worse, the shower taps seemed to be installed incorrectly and often got stuck. Every time I used them, it took a few long seconds to figure out how to get them to work properly—far from convenient. On top of that, the three soap bottles were attached to the wall at an awkwardly high height, making it uncomfortable to reach and use. I had a serious issue when the AC vent cover fell from the ceiling onto the floor. Although staff responded, there was no real apology or any effort to offer something to make up for it. Breakfast was the biggest letdown. For 40 euros, the selection was very limited—some salmon, avocado, a few sausages, cheeses, yogurts, and some pastries. I also ordered scrambled eggs for around 23 euros, which were incredibly small and nothing special. For that price, I expected much more. Though my stay wasn’t bad, it fell short of what I was hoping for, especially given the price. The room, service, and breakfast all left much to be desired. On a positive note, the minibar was well equipped and the location is good.

the hotel has a lot of potential - great location and canal views! and is in dire need of a light renovation: towels and bathrobes are threadbare /need to be replaced; carpets in the rooms are stained; light fixtures are dated and drag down the aesthetic. additionally, personal care amenities at this calibre of hotel should always be branded amenities — from a high-end recogniseable brand that has legitimacy in the personal care category — even an aesop or an acqua di parma would elevate the guest experience. hotel 717 still provides guests with licensed Chopard shampoo/ shower gels. the world of hospitality has moved on from ten years ago and branded amenities are now the expected bare minimum. housekeeping staff need to raise the bar of attentiveness and attention to detail; rooms should be cleaned more thoroughly with basic amenities replenished daily without request (ie drinking glasses and bathrobes). also…no one needs two shower caps (who uses them in reality?) however a broader selection of amenities should be supplied — ie the stock standard selection of cotton buds etc. (not offered at Hotel 717)
