Tragic. We went on a busy Sunday and the service was remarkably fast and food was wonderful... but it was all a mirage. We went the next day, Monday, and it was like being in a film at the moment of terrifying plot twist. To find out the life and lively beings was just a shade of some time long gone and now a completely different staff, atmosphere and attitude.
Hideous zombie like service. Slow, distracted server. 40 minutes for a coffee after ordering! Gruff angry male server taking our extra chair and banging the table before even mashing eye contact or saying anything and nor an apology just a blunt statement.
The orders are both wrong. More waiting. Incorrect orders come after 30 minutes, ten more minutes before a coffee can arrive. It's almost humorous how bad everything is. Taste is bland. We order 2 beverages each, 2 breakfasts and a pancake dessert. An indulgent start we enjoyed the day before, but was a never ending joke of bad slow service and lifeless food.
Almost no syrup and no extra a day after receiving a vibrant plate with abundance. Not one familiar face from the day before. Are the Sunday staff actors in a play where the restaurant is amazing then the zombie workers return to remind us we cannot have nice things?!
We like routine and would have returned each day, but that was shattered stay such horrible horrible service with angry disconnected incompetence (and a 60 euro bill for the pain!) That we never came back assuming the Sunday was an anomaly.
Lucky we found a kiwi themed breakfast spot, smaller but much better service and food each day which did not fade away after the first. We stuck with it for the final 6 days of our trip.
Too bad when low end personalities who resent their jobs chase away high...

We informed the staff that my mother was allergic to chilli. We ordered her the korean fried chicken snack with a substitute sauce, as the original sauce has chilli. When the food was brought to the table, I asked again if the chicken was without chilli. The waitress informed me it was with the gochujang sauce (which didn't tell me anything at that time). My mom took a bite and it had chilli in it.
I then went back inside and asked the staff if the chicken was without chilli. They confirmed again that indeed, it was. One of the staff took me to the chef and asked the chef to "explain to the lady here that the chicken is without chilli," which the chef then confirmed again.
They came to the table and realised that in fact, the chicken DID have chilli on it, and said they're sorry. And explained there was a miscommunication. This was said by both the chef and the staff.
This is to say that when someone dies of an allergy, sorry does not cut it. A miscommunication issue, as explained to us at the table, doesn't cut it. I'm glad that my mom's allergy is not severe, but beware. This is extremely careless, and then to try to prove me wrong and acting over the top because I want to avoid the EXACT situation the staff put my allergic mother into.
Compensation for the ordeal was that we didn't have to pay for the chicken, and we got free water. Will not visit again.
Other food was good, staff other than...
Read moreI had an extremely disappointing experience at La Gom Amsterdam. The service was abysmal, as it took them a staggering 30 minutes to even take our drink orders after we had reserved a table for 12:30. To make matters worse, they approached us for our food order at 1:15, and even then, they managed to get it wrong. The food itself was far from satisfactory, and the prices were unjustifiably high for such a subpar dining experience. Overall, it was an unpleasant visit, and I would not recommend La Gom Amsterdam based on my unfortunate encounter. The food they served I would not even feed to a dog that’s how bad it was, from the disappointing and flat ambience when we walked in to waiting over 30 mins just for a cup of tea and a can of coke and being told they can only take drinks orders as the kitchen was too busy? How are you taking reservations and still the kitchen is too busy, what sort of nonsensical circus is this? The staff was also very unprofessional, we asked for a spoon and she responded with attitude saying I will get you a spoon rudely.
To top everything off once we had made our food order and waited 25 mins for eggs, my partners vegetarian hangover breakfast never arrived as the chef forgot the bread, if this was someone with a serious hangover I can guarantee they would be drinking just to get over the experience of sitting in here.
I do not...
