I used AI (again) to find a Thai restaurant where they are not adapting the spices to tourist standards. And I got what I wanted: Rakang is located in the Jordaan in a nice street where previously there was a canal. Shops and restaurants at both sides of the street. Nice weather, so I got a seat half on the resto, half on the terrace, cosy. I indulged and had a starter, chicken with peanut sauce, followed by a Tom Yung Kung soup - and that one was really spicy, burned my mouth but it was also tasty. As main course I had the chicken with red curry and at first sight I was afraid it would equal the soup in spicyness but luckily, less hot but still spicy. All courses were very good quality, I would not know what to complain about. And, the service was very friendly! Arrive early or make a reservation, this place is busy! Recommended!

An unexpectedly excellent and authentic Thai restaurant. We stopped here for a quick bite on the way to the train station, as I’m sure many others have. My hopes weren’t high but I came away very impressed and with one caution: starters and papaya salad are extortionately overpriced - sick with the mains. The roast duck dish was delicious and plentiful. Highly recommended and not much else to say there. The Pad Thai was the best I have had in ages; it to one me back to Thailand. I didn’t even get. A picture it went so fast, but I was tempted to order a second. At 18 euros though I didn’t. It has the perfectly soft and stretchy noodles I love, and a good mix of spicy and savory. If they added small sides of sugar, spice, and peanuts to sprinkle on then it would be 6 stars! Just amazingly accurate to what I remember.

tight space, but that’s always more enjoyable than a restaurant with too much empty space… servers were super kind and happy to chat. I ordered the shrimp pad thai and was really impressed by the quality, quantity and freshness of the dish. also shared a papaya salad with my friends, normally i like mango salad with pad thai but this papaya salad was dope! super tasty on its on and on top of my pad thai. tasted my friend’s red curry… AMAZING! and also my friend’s duck and shiitake mushrooms… WOW SO GOOD! a little pricey to be honest but i enjoyed myself. next time i will order family sharing style for the table.

We used Google reviews to select this highly-rated Thai restaurant. Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience. We ordered vegetarian spring rolls and they came out and for the first-time I have ever seen them with peas and corn in them. They tasted okay but it was a little bizarre. I ordered a tofu pad kraw dish and my wife ordered a dish with shrimp. Her dish was about 6 out of 10 for flavor but for being charged over 30 Euro, the portion size was small. My dish came out with undercooked green beans, eggplant, potatoes, and onions. There was no sauce and the tofu did not have any time to absorb any flavor. When telling the server that I did not think the dish had any flavor and was undercooked, he told me that I can get something else and would still have to pay for the original dish. Then he offered to recook the dish that I had, which I don’t know how hygienic that is to do, but I agreed. The recooked dish was better but the whole experience was soured by the original dish and the lack of professionalism by the server. Other servers also came by and asked me how I liked the dish and I told them it was better but by that point they had...

The food was tasty and served quick. I encountered an unpleasant experience with a male staff(bald) member who was noticeably rude and unwelcoming. It felt as though my presence was an inconvenience to him. When he took our order, he neglected to include rice for two people. Upon inquiring about it, he did not suggest that one bowl would suffice. Instead, he brought two large bowls of rice, which led us to request a change to one bowl of fried rice at an additional cost, as we could not finish both. Had he indicated that one bowl would be enough, I would have opted not to order the second. If he is the owner, it is disappointing, especially considering the reputation for friendliness in Thai culture. In contrast, the female servers were much more pleasant and welcoming. While I would recommend the food, the service from this particular staff member detracted significantly from the...

When we arrived on Sunday evening at 1930 it was still very busy, luckily we made a reservation in advance. Staff was very friendly and efficient and even suggested other options to share when we ordered the same dish, which I find very attentive! Starters came very quick, but main course took some time, and since we were on the clock it made us a bit nerveous. However when the main courses came, we really enjoyed the taste of the food as well the presentation. At the end, after checking how long it would take, we had the banana fritters. Me as a friend banana junkie really liked the preparation. Dough was good, dry and not to fat. The fried bananas came with vanilla ice and a dark chocolate mousse which complemented perfect the taste of the bananas. So to conclude: do make a reservation, even in a Sunday evening and enjoy the...
