My friend and I came here after tiring of meat heavy dutch food. We treated ourselves to vegetable pakora and spring rolls ( south asian style) and then the Indian banquet (chapatti with various stews such as daal, chickpea curry, saag aloo) and all of the dishes were delicious! It was so wonderful seeing such colourful food as we were pretty veg starved. I’d been suffering from an awful cold and generally get quite anxious about eating on holiday and so this was the first meal I actually finished in Amsterdam let alone taste! The spices really cleared my sinuses! I washed it down with rose and fruit tea which had brewed for 5 days (!) which was gorgeous, wish my taste buds were in full force. Could only imagine how lovely it would be! The Vegan coconut ice cream was delicious too and succinctly cooled my palette. Coming from near Southall I wasn’t expecting much to challenge my spice palette in Holland but this worked a treat! Didn’t feel it in the morning though. Staff were friendly and service was prompt, but you need to pay at the till. Generally they like to give you breathing space for conversation post dinner. Prices were a little over budget but they are flexible with you sharing dishes and generally they are very reasonable- we’re just students so used to instant noodle budgets. A lovely end to our stay in Amsterdam and I encourage all vegetarians and meat eaters to come eat here. I recommend coming for about 7 30pm midweek, it’s a little...
Read moreI chose this restaurant for a lunch date with my friend, who is vegetarian, as I wanted to go somewhere with plenty of options for him. I made a reservation online for 13:30 and even called the restaurant to confirm it.
We arrived on Sunday, February 9th, at 13:30, only to find the restaurant still closed when it was supposed to be open. Eventually, the cook let us in and seated us at the only table that was set. He seemed unsure about why his colleague wasn’t there, saying they had probably forgotten they were working—an extremely frustrating response, especially considering we had a confirmed reservation.
To make matters worse, the restaurant was freezing. We later found out they didn’t even have a heating system. While we waited in the cold, the cook offered us a pot of tea, but it didn’t do much to improve the experience.
We ordered three dishes: • Cheese naan, which turned out to be an odd version of pizza with Gorgonzola, feta, and a third type of cheese. • India Kitchari (ordered by my friend). • Tofu tikka masala (my choice).
Unfortunately, the food was disappointingly bland. There was no apology for the poor service, and we weren’t offered any discount despite the unpleasant experience. In the end, we paid €64.50, which didn’t feel justified.
Overall, this was not a good experience, and I wouldn’t...
Read moreWe called a few times to let them know we’d be with a big group (11 people eventually.) They were helpful and nice on the phone. I changed the amount a few times, because people started joining, this was alright with them
The place where we were seated was very uncomfortable for eating. Huge sofa for like 20/30 people. With 3 little high tables in the middle. This left us a bit uncomfortable because it was hard to have a conversation being seated so far from eachother and how are we supposed to eat from these tables? Was more like a tea-corner. We tried to move around with the tables (I asked for permission), but couldn’t find a way to make it more cozy
the service was not great. We had to go downstairs a few times to ask for something, when I asked for 5 plates (2 persons plates) she gaves us 2 plates for 5 people. When I told her that something must’ve gone wrong, because this is not going to feed 11 people. She didn’t care much and I asked for two more plates. She again brought just 1 plate and didn’t excuse herself at all. Was quite grumpy and already annoyed with us from the start.
Also they gave someone who explicitly told them she cannot eat lactose, a dish with cheese in it.
I had high hopes but it definitely disappointed , never...
