Nice place to hang out, can get crowded at times. Bar food available but they don’t have proper fried chicken for the finest palate. There’s space to sit outside and some space indoor, with tv for matches and stuff. Staff is friendly. If you come from abroad and you want beer make sure you tell them you want a pint or, like any place in Amsterdam, you’ll end up with a lady glass. My Favorite beers in there are a London IPA or Weizen, those applies well to different moods and can drive well your drink thoughts. If it’s a bit rainy there are curtains to save you outside, and WiFi is there if you need to pretend you are working on a laptop. The burger is fine, better than average, nachos deluxe will cover any appetite and of course they serve bitterballen, kaastengels and some bread with Aioli which, if you try, you will fail to fully understand it but it’ll feel good anyway.
Worth mentioning is a creative men toilet, make sure you bring a marker in there. I don’t know about the women toilet but I assume is as much entertaining as the men’s.
English fluently spoken, some bartenders speak Italian as well. I assume they speak Dutch of course but I couldn’t verify because I don’t...
Read moreNice location for a hospitality place. If staff knows ‘hospitality’....I seriously doubt it. Today, Sunday, for lunch we sat down and were greeted by the staff. We ordered two smoothies and had the (Arie’s)burger + fries and the sandwich with salmon. After 15 minutes I wondered were the drinks were because others around us got their drinks first while arriving and ordering after us. They told us they were busy (15 guest outside and one table inside) working with two staff members on a Sunday afternoon! After 20 minutes one of the smoothies arrived and he forgot the second one. The second one he sat down rudely and I was shocked by it. 2 minutes later the food arrived and we started enjoying sitting at the place finally. The food, I got to say, we really enjoyed. The burger I really enjoyed and the sandwich with salmon for my guest was also really nice. So nothing bad to say about the quality of the food. The fries never came by the way and when paying at the bar they were still on the receipt. Overall the staff was just bad and they should have been a bit more customer friendly because the whole time they were cranky. Not a really good experience and we won’t...
Read moreI can't really comment on their food... as I never ate there. But as for service?
Based upon internet recommendations (and photographs), 7 of us popped in for lunch and found the place near-deserted with only one table occupied. The single staff member asked if we had a reservation and when we said no, he said he couldn't serve us - so guessing it's reservation only, despite no other customers being around (or mention of the other tables being reserved).
We ended up strolling further down to the Café "Marcella" where - despite only one woman working behind the bar - they happily accommodated all of us around other patrons, taking nearly 100 euros for our lunch order.
I haven't returned to the Huyschkaemer so can't comment on the food but as there's plenty of other places that don't require reservation I don't really have a compelling reason to arrange a reservation there - certainly not with a place that seemed so empty but not that desperate...
