il Cavallino — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Wanted to try this place for a long time and did it today. Unfortunately our experience wasn’t good. We were waiting for a table outside and our turn was given to some other couple. We didn’t complain about this and waited for another table silently. And later we were told a table is ready and while we were walking to sit, someone else seated there before we could. I couldn’t stand this second incident and I complained. First I was given some excuses and when I didn’t buy those, I was given an apology which I believe wasn’t sincere because nothing was done to reverse the situation. This place had no idea how disrespectful is what happened and made no effort to fix it. Maybe this is because we are not Dutch, I am not sure… About the food; it’s normal food which you can cook at home as well. Nothing wrong and nothing special. This is a place to eat when you don’t have anything at home ready. If you don’t live close by, you don’t need to bother going….

Update: Restaurant replied back blaming us… That is unfortunate. Here are the actual facts which are very different then what they claimed in their reply back. 1- from the very first moment, we informed the waitress that we wanted to sit outside. They gave us a table inside so they knew we were waiting inside. It’s not that we didn’t tell them. 2- No one told us we should wait outside or we can’t wait inside(also it is not clear why where we wait makes any difference. where we wait should really not affect anything). 3- we took the first available table offered to us. We have not refused the table. It is correct that later we were offered another table, like half an hour later, which is not clear why because we were already seated outside now. Switching a table for the 3rd time, in middle of our dinner would just have been another inconvenience. 4- we we’re not offered a wine or anything else as an apology. The wines were part of our order. We were charged for everything we had and we paid for all. We even still tipped the waitress since none of this was her fault but whoever responsible with reservations and seatings.

So all 4 points restaurant made in their reply are actually incorrect. Why they chosen to do such reply is unclear. Anyone can make a mistake and may even fail to fix it. but making false claims to cover their mistake, takes their disrespect to...

My fiance and I ate here last night. We both loved our meals (confit duck and Guinea fowl, with chocolate cake and tiramisu as desserts). Unfortunately, we both woke up with food poisoning this morning. This was our last day in Amsterdam and instead of visiting the Rijksmuseum we've spent it running between the bed and bathroom in our hotel. We were not able to get our museum tickets refunded. We were looking for something to eat on a very hot day (35 C) and wanted a quiet restaurant in a quaint neighborhood. This place hit the mark.

The host was apologetic that there was no AC and the only outside seating was in the sun. We opted inside with the windows open and it was pleasant.

The food was so fresh and delicious. The pasta tasted homemade and everything was full of flavor. Would highly recommend if you are craving some good eats and...
