This is one of the most expensive sushi places in Amsterdam. Which seems funny because neither the taste of the food neither the interior or the music compensate the ridiculous prices. 8 pieces of sushi (which is a standard size of roll everywhere) cost here 28 euro! I go to very fantastic sushi places in Amsterdam and maximum price for a roll is 14/15 euro, so half of the price you pay here. And trust me - there are amazing Japanese sushi places where the sushi is fresh and taste much better. Here they want their sushi to look „fancy” with all the additions and colours, but the true is that you can’t taste the fish or the rice because the amount of fried elements, additional sauces/ spices kills the overall taste and makes everything taste the same- more like fastfood, not like something sublime. And the price is just ridiculous. Completely not worth the money. I can belive anyone would like to eat here if there are places in amsterdam where sushi is much much better if it comes to quality and taste and prices much more reasonable. This place is a joke.. i will...
Read moreI hate to leave bad reviews, but for the service we received at Michiu I will do it a thousand times over.
As soon as we walked in, the staff were guilt tripping us for overbooking. We apologized multiple times, but the man kept mentioning how many bookings he had to cancel because of us and so on. I understand how frustrating that must be, but we seriously thought we would have more people coming. The lady was extremely rude, throwing glasses on our tables instead of placing, cutting us off before we even finished our sentences. The tension was real! In addition to this, our food took more than an hour to arrive. We did not receive our food together, it took 10-15mins in between dishes. Also, they left out one of the orders and basically told us we did not order the item. Not to mention they tried to charge us for items that was not brought to the table!
I am leaving one star, because the food was pretty darn good and also because I do not have an...

They have a large range of different sushi rolls, nigiris and warm dishes. The flavour combinations are good and very much alive due to the presentarion as well. Though I sometimes missed some catchy sauces and flavors. There are plenty vegetarian dishes as well.
My favorite were the Unagi Nigiri, the Dragon Roll and the Spider Roll. The dishes I likes the least were the Vegetarian Gyōzas and Michiu Roll. They did not had much taste.
The ambiance of the restaurant is very pleasant and calm. There are no loud kitchen noises and such. The service was friendly and good at levelling with us as a group of 5 girls. They were paying good attention and almost never had to hold up my hand.
I would defenitely go back to taste the rest...
