Housed in one of the arches next to the Fatih Mosque on Rozengracht, Mirinda is a small, charming Moroccan snackbar with an outside terrace.
The name "Mirinda" is an appropriate one; It originates from the Latin verb "miror," meaning "to admire." Mirinda means "worthy of admiration."
Besides serving Moroccan and English breakfast, the speciality of the house is Msemmen, delicious sweet and savoury wraps, made with a traditional Maghreb flatbread, commonly found throughout North Africa.
Savoury versions come with roasted vegetables, meat, chicken, or merguez lamb sausages, optionally served with harrisa, a hot spicy chilli pepper sauce. Everything is prepared in open view on a grill behind the counter. Sweet versions come with the dreaded Nutella, honey or honey and feta cheese, recommended with a topping of crushed almonds. Fresh mint tea is the perfect accompaniment.
Prices are very reasonable. The 'admirable' wraps can be eaten on the premises or taken away for later...
Read moreI went here in the evening a few days ago. I had high expectations for this place with all of the good reviews, but I was a little disappointed. The food was fresh and was cooked to order which was great; but I thought the taste was just fine.
There were also a few things that I saw that should be corrected..
The employee serving us had gloves on, but on a number of occasions touched her hair and also handled money from other customers without changing out her gloves. She would then handle the food/wraps. She should be changing her gloves, or have another person handle the money.
She also cut our wraps after wrapping it in foil, which is usually fine, but the way she did it left small pieces of aluminum in the inside of the wrap that I had to pick out. I’m not sure of the better way to cut..maybe cut quicker and use a non serrated knife.
I prefer Effendy, but I’d give this place another try. Maybe I’ll try a...
Read moreI stumbled across this gorgeous little eatery whilst on a walk. The interior of the restaurant is so lovingly decorated which initially drew my attention, but it was the freshly made Bastillas in windows that I had to try!
The three lovely women behind the counter were so hospitable as I waited for my Bastilla to be heated. It felt like I was being invited into their home. We tried the meat Bastilla for lunch and it was absolutely delicious…perfectly seasoned and generous portion. I look forward to trying the Spinach and Cheese & their doner next time 😊
Thank you for you...
