MONTY'S Toasties — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Where do I even begin with such an establishment. An establishment where not only toasties are made, but genuine memories that I will hold forever until I am back. It all started with the options: kimchi, chutney and marmite. Though none of these you could go wrong with, my heart called for chutney. Fast forward to the first bite. I unlocked 100% of my brains capacity. The world’s haziness was turned sharp. I could hear colours. I felt and tasted every singular ingredient. The caramelized onions, aged cheddar, herbed butter and the love from the chef in the back who gave my tongue this blessing. Every bite I was transported to the happiest memories I own, as the flavours danced on my tastebuds. It was as if I never truly tasted a sandwich before, until now. I may have left as a customer, but Monty’s will always have me. I will never forget them, and now as I sit on my plane back home, I realize that the true meaning of home is where the heart is, and that is with Monty’s. My time at Monty’s was nothing short of extraordinary. After finding them on Instagram, I knew immediately that a quality toasty would bring a warmth within me that the city of Amsterdam cannot provide. As I walked in, I was greeted by the owner (Mr.Monty I presume) who educated me on the different sandwiches with poise, humor and confidence. I ordered, knowing that I was in good hands.

I waited with anticipation for my toasty to be delivered, and then it was… straight to my table. There it was… the scrumptious Chutney One. This sandwich was perfect… that’s the only way I can describe it.

I was really upset to start my second half because I knew it would be the end of my sandwich soon. Luckily someone came from the kitchen only to deliver ANOTHER half of a chutney sandwich to me on the house. It was truly a gift from god (god being Monty).

When I finished the sandwich I shed three singular tears… one for each of the three sandwiches they have on their menu. If I could take anything away from my experience I would say I would’ve loved dessert, luckily the owners informed me that dessert is on the horizon!

We had the absolute please of eating at Monty’s on our food-filled trip to Amsterdam this summer and Monty’s without a doubt was the standout act.

They have somehow transformed the humble cheese toastie into what can only be considered a legendairy work of art! We went for the staple cheese and onion chutney and let me tell you that the first bite into the delicious caramelised crust quickly turns into cheese-filled sensation that quite literally melts in your mouth! Considering the reasonable price and the fact that we initially stumbled on Monty’s last minute we were so blown away with the quality and generous size of the toastie we ate. We just had to write a review!

This small independent eatery delivers on massive flavours, a welcoming local vibe and sensational food in its simplest form. Monty’s has claimed its spot as a MUST-TRY for first timers and regulars alike in Amsterdam and it’s going on our list for the follow-up trip.

We spend every ounce of our free time eating at the greatest food spots around Europe so take it from us that you cannot sleep on this hot spot!
