My visit to Otemba Gyoza was an enjoyable experience, and I find their concept intriguing. With the right execution, it has the potential to excel. While my overall impression was positive, there are areas I believe could use some refinement. Specifically, the concept of soaked gyoza, such as the SPICY MISO we tried, didn't quite hit the mark for me. The gyoza ended up soggy, losing the essence of its flavor, which is a crucial aspect of enjoying gyoza. In contrast, gyoza served with sauces instead of broth, like HOKKAIDO or NAGOYA, were delightful. The sauces enhanced the gyoza's flavor, creating a nice blend. Additionally, the SALMON TATAKI was amazing. The HIDA gyoza, however, was overly salty for our tastes, but it's worth noting the restaurant had only been open for a week at that time. They also mentioned plans to introduce a dessert menu, potentially featuring items like mochi, which sounds promising. For those who are particular about their gyoza, I'd recommend opting for varieties with stronger sauces. If you're curious about the soaked gyoza, by all means, give it a try, though it might not be to everyone's liking, as was our experience. Despite these critiques, the staff's welcoming and receptive attitude toward feedback stood out, encouraging me to share my honest opinions.

Visited in December during the family vacation. After a week of steakhouses and cafes, we were craving something Asian for a change. We were pleasantly surprised by the quirky red decor, warm, unpretentious service, and the bold yet well-executed fusion of Japanese flavors with adventurous twists. Ordered almost the entire gyoza menu, but barely took any pictures as we were too eager to dive in. Each bite-sized bundle of joy packed a punch, balancing strong yet contrasting flavors surprisingly well. With great prices and a leisurely two-hour lunch, we happily waited out the passing shower. Thank you for the hospitality and fantastic food!

Otemba Gyoza is a cozy and comfy spot with great food and friendly service. The gyoza, ramen and cucumber salad were all delicious and the portion sizes were decent. However, the iced tea lacked flavor, and my ramen, which usually comes with two pieces of pork, only had one this time- a small letdown. The location is super convenient, right in front of the tram stop and Albert Cuyp Market, making it a great stop for a meal. Prices are what you’d expect in Amsterdam and overall, I’d still recommend it for a good Japanese comfort food experience!

If you’re visiting Amsterdam and want an unforgettable food experience, Otemba is the place to be! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and good vibes. The atmosphere is stylish and vibrant, and the food… just WOW. Every dish was a flavor explosion – fresh, creative, and beautifully presented.

But what truly made the night special was the exceptional service from Mathias and Samya. They were both absolutely amazing – kind, attentive, and genuinely passionate about their work. Mathias made sure everything ran smoothly and made us feel so cared for, while Samya added such a joyful and positive energy to the evening. Together, they made the whole experience feel personal and unforgettable.

It’s not just a restaurant – it’s a place where you feel seen, welcomed, and spoiled. 10/10 – I would come back in a heartbeat.

Thank you, Mathias and Samya, for making our...

We came especially for the Dim Sam, but the website did not mention its on the other location. Maybe better to tell in advance. So we drank and left.

Also, staff obviously doesn’t like working there very lazy. We had to chase their attention when the place was not busy at all.

I ordered hot tea. They gave the tea in a broken pot. They also didn’t explain how to use this special device pot (you put it on the glass apparently). So I accidentally spilled the tea on myself trying to figure it out. I got burned a little bit and wet. I told them what happened they didn’t even say “sorry” or if I’m ok. They made a new tea with a (not broken) pot and tried to...
