The menu at Saravanaa Bhavan is extensive, with a wide variety of South Indian dishes to choose from. There are dosas, uttapams, idlis, vadas, curries, and more. The vegetarian options are clearly marked on the menu, and there are also many vegan dishes available.
I recently had the opportunity to try the food at Saravanaa Bhavan, and I was very impressed. The food was flavorful and authentic, and the portions were generous. I started with the idli sambar, which was a simple but delicious dish of steamed rice cakes served with a lentil and vegetable stew. For my main course, I had the masala dosa, which is a crispy crepe filled with a potato and onion masala. The dosa was perfectly cooked, and the masala was flavorful and well-spiced.
The service at Saravanaa Bhavan was friendly and attentive. The staff was happy to answer my questions about the menu, and they were quick to bring me my food.
Overall, I had a great experience at Saravanaa Bhavan. The food was delicious, the service was excellent,I would definitely recommend Saravanaa Bhavan to anyone looking for a great meal in Amsterdam.
Here are some pros and cons of the vegetarian food at Saravanaa Bhavan Amsterdam:

Read moreThe famous Saravana bhavan from Tamilnadu, India. I had high expectations going there with regards to taste as it's usually Vegetarian people's Paradise.
Looks like there was zero maintenance or no effort taken to make it appealing inside the restaurant. Felt like some random Indian restaurant that have no interest in Business just selling food literally. Although I will give full marks for this - They played some good vintage Tamil songs and maintained the Tamilnadu vibe ❤️
Service nothing to write home about, even In India the same chain restaurant people used to show some attitude (I had it in Delhi once). I ordered Ghee Pongal (10 Euros), Vada one plate (6 Euros, 3/piece). Asked if there is poori then he said "it will be too much for you". I mean he is looking at me and deciding himself which is weird. Honestly I could eat both the Pongal and poori + Vada. He reacted as if the Pongal is of full plate but it's rather two serves which is just half the plate only. Any kid can complete it.
Anyways the taste was good but I have had much better Ghee Pongal at Delhi, India (in same Saravana bhavan). Vada & Sambar was good, no complaints. But the chutney seemed to be something straight from the refrigerator!!!
This place needs major revamp as it's situated in a prime location which can attract people with rework and not only for its name :) Also people could be more kind and attentive towards customers. Customer first in this Business even if you are making millions it's important to...

BAD SERVICE💃🙅: Not sure what is the problem of the waitresses here. They are SO ARROGANT and do not behave well with their customers. They need to remember that their salary is coming from the money we spend at the restaurant. The male waiters' behavior is better and less arrogant. But the ladies are totally out of control. After waiting for a long time for our food, I asked a waitress politely how much more time it will take for our food to arrive. She didn't answer clearly. Then I asked politely "Is it going to take for example between 5-10 min?". She said arrogantly that she cannot say since she doesn't work in the kitchen. None of the female waitresses are friendly.
OKAY FOOD 🤕: The food is just ok. Nothing great about it. Actually, it tastes bad compared to another Indian restaurant we tried in Amsterdam: THE MADRAS DIARIES.
NOT WORTH THE MONEY 💰: The food that we ate for the money we spent was not satisfactory at all. We ate little, it wasn't tasty, but it cost 42 Euros.
COSTLY MISTAKES 💸: After paying the bill, we realized that they added an item to our bill that WE NEVER ORDERED. It costs 7,50 Euros. I understand that mistakes happen. But if I hadn't seen our receipt, we would have lost 7,50 Euros.
I think one of the main reasons many people come here is that it is advertised as 100%...
