We discovered this place on a whim on Google Maps -- it's a small restaurant with steps leading downwards to a bigger space, with an open kitchen and two chefs, one who serves us most of the time. The seating is small and some may call cramped but we found it rather cozy, with the interior decorated with Thai and Buddhist iconography.
We ordered a chicken massaman curry, a chicken pad thai and stir fry shrimp with basil leaves. We had satays for appetizers which were amazing; the sauces were most definitely made in the kitchen, although the chicken was hard to remove from the skewers. The food arrived and was served quickly, and the flavours were deep and authentic to our Chinese palettes. The flavour profiles remained diverse, and it tasted rich and creamy whilst not being too much. The spice level was on the more mild side, but still tasted hot and we thought it was just right.
The staff were extremely friendly and kind, and although one of the chefs was not proficient in English, he still smiled at us and told us to enjoy our time in Amsterdam. We told the other member of staff we'd come back for sure, and we intend to, even if we do not this trip.
I must warn that the portions are on the larger side, especially for the pad thai in my opinion.
However, we left with our bellies full and feeling taken care of by a family diner. We enjoyed our time here and it is most definitely a highlight so far. Although we are not Thai -- we have eaten a good amount of Asian food in our lives and we can say with confidence that it is...
Read morePotentially the best Thai food in Amsterdam!
After a day of Dutch food, we were looking for something warm to combat the windy weather and found this hidden gem. The food was outstanding – the warm beef salad, green curry with beef, and tom yum soup were all perfectly spiced and incredibly comforting, like a warm hug.
The only downside was the wait time. We didn't have a reservation and waited about an hour to get a table, and then another 30 minutes for our food. This is understandable as the place seems to be run by just two people – the owner/main chef and a sous chef handling orders, drinks, and desserts too.
Despite the wait, the food made it completely worthwhile. The waiter was also very helpful, and the owner kindly shared some tips for a tasty stir-fry. Highly recommended if you're looking for authentic, delicious Thai food and don't mind a...
Read moreThe meal was fine ( they apologized when they got one of our dishes wrong- it tasted fine anyways). However, when paying, our cards didn’t work & we were told the credit card service had been not working well for some time. (They blamed it on American credit cards- please… our Visa cards including the Sapphire reserve have worked flawlessly worldwide). If they had told us this before being seated we would have gone elsewhere.
We were given a choice to go find an ATM or use PayPal. Since we didn’t want to go looking for an ATM in the dark, we chose PayPal for convenience (but as expected we were charged a high fee and got a lousy exchange rate). This experience left a bad taste at the end of an otherwise nice meal. Please treat your customers with...
