Restaurant ACE — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Update: Invited back again by the restaurant since they apologized and explained what happened a week ago is sort of 'accident', and definitely not the normal level of their service, I found out this time the serving flow was quite smooth, food was as good as last time, and together with the warm service, the overall experience was a lot, a lot better. Among all, how seriously they take their customers and business is most appreciated.

Previous review: The worst dining experience ever!!! Although the quality of food and service is fine, the time management is absolutely poor. We arrived at 18:10 ( table booked for 18:30), and it took 3 hours till the main course ( 4th course) served at 21:20 to us, together to guests siting on the other table who arrived around 19:45. The average waiting time for each course is at least 45mins, except for the dessert after I complained. The explanation for the ridiculous waiting time is that the kitchen is very small, so serving food to each table at different time is difficult. I mean if you cannot serve your guests arriving different time, don't give the option to book a table at 18:00, and just limit the time slot between 19:30-20:00, so you may serve everyone with the same course at the same time. The food is tasteful in general, so only recommended to people looking for a place with nice food to spend over 4 hours reading a book or working on the laptop. Don't forget the noise...

Restaurant is potential rising start restaurant. There is still a lot things than can be improved. First - in order to have more authentic restaurant I will suggest to renovate bit a floor , change tables and chairs with something more simple and natural style. Old wooden items in the place will get more attention if you remove plastic tables and shining lights. Service was nice , however very slow. For 4 course menu we spend 2 hours during lunch time. And restaurant was not busy at the moment. Food has interesting mix, my favorite is lamb neck. Wine list is ok with fair pricing. We were sitting at the window table, first we though is a nice . But actually it was very noisy from the street , food delivery trucks and I m looking into the garbage bin. Also windows were dirty . A bit of cleaning is needed in the whole place. Not sure if I will come again. Thanks for our waiter today , he really give his best to have a good experience...

My experience at Ace wasn't totally negative; however I expected more, hence the 3 stars.

To condense this review down a bit - the food was good. It wasn't so busy on a Thursday night, but we still waited 1.5 hours for our mains. For a 40 euro steak there was a lot of grizzle and fat to chew through too... Tasted like they got their produce from Albert Hein that day.

Service was good, waiter was attentive and knew the menu. I don't get the theme of the restaurant though.. is it a casino? Card shark den? Pictures of women covered in blood on the walls was an interesting touch. If the staff made card jokes / puns it would make more sense (e.g "woah full house tonight, aye folks?!" Etc).

At the end of the night, 250 euro for 4 mains a bottle of wine and a single starter to share just didn't cut it for this LVL 7 google expert. Wouldn't recommend.
