The Corner — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I have never had to write such a negative review of a place before and in fact if you read any of my previous reviews on here you will see that normally I am very positive about most places. However, this place was nothing short of a disaster. We attended as a group of 6 after a long day at a conference at the rai and this was the only place that had a table for 6 available, this should have been my first warning. We were ignored for quite a while but when the waiter did take our order he didn't write it down (which always worries me but usually my worry is baseless), our drinks arrived and my friends diet coke was somehow waited with perno/sambucca (something the waiter denied smelling but the manager agreed it was). Our food didn't arrive for a long time, we spoke to a waitress and she didn't realise we were even waiting for food, she then spoke to our waiter who looked panicked and wait straight to a till. My assumption here was he forgot to put the order in but he later insisted the kitchen didn't see the ticket. This is the oldest trick in the waiting on handbook, I had been a waiter for many years during my student games and knew the rule that you always blame the kitchen as they are in the back and won't get the complaint. When our food eventually arrived, my burger was raw in the middle, I like my burger nice and pink but this was completely uncooked raw meat. The burgers were obviously from frozen too so the chance of me getting ill from uncooked beef was quite high. The rest of the groups food ranged from ok to inedible. Overall this place had terrible service, at best bad food and at worst food capable of giving you food poisoning. Great restaurant! Sitting outside in a group we received brilliant service from the waitress and never had to request drink refills since she kept an eye proactively throughout our visit. There’s a nice atmosphere sitting outside, with the small individual toilet being located at the rear of the inside. As well as there being a good range of drinks the food was impressive. The tapas style sharers were really tasty and the burger was a good size, cooked and presented well.

Lights were way too dim where it was hard to see the menu, hence why the photo below needed flash. This was the chef's special for 2, they did not mention that it's mostly seafood, which I don't eat. Good thing my mom does who I shared the plate with. The waiter tried and it's not his fault there was some misunderstanding in English since we should be the ones speaking Dutch here.
