I’m writing this quite late because I’ve been debating whether or not to share my experience. I’m not one to write 1 star reviews but this place was honestly just disappointing. I love to explore new food spots in Amsterdam, however, I regret eating here. Firstly, the portions are absurdly small for the price and we were still starving by the end of our meal despite spending just under 80 euros. Secondly, unfortunately the customer service was quite unsatisfactory. I had ordered a spicy tuna dish which came with some green caviar which could have been an honest mistake on my part for missing that information stated in the menu(I’m not sure if it was even stated because I never received the menu again). I decided to try one piece before making conclusions about the dish. Personally I found it inedible and took away from the spicy tuna flavor and tasted quite plant like and had quite an odd texture but when I asked the waitress if I could get it remade to my liking or returned she responded telling me that once food leaves the kitchen it cannot be returned. Me and my friend both work in the service industry in Amsterdam and we found this quite shocking. I believe a rule like this should be stated somewhere in the menu or voiced to the customer. I ended up paying 14 euros for a dish I hadn’t eaten and left the restaurant starving. I would have offered my dish to my friend to avoid wasting food however she’s allergic to fish. The other dishes my friend ordered were overall poor in flavor and also were very small portion sizes. 16 euros for like 5 bite size pieces of meat. I really wanted to like this place but I feel like I lost so much money for food I couldn’t enjoy or at least feel full and fed. It was also unclear who the boss or manager was because the staff working didn’t seem to have much authority or experience. It’s quite weird a manager or boss was not present present as maybe they could have been of more help. the only positive is that I believe they do serve fresh fish which I did enjoy. I just really wish they had handled the situation much better and I’m upset that their customer service wasn’t what we...

Solo traveling from the US for a couple of weeks, I wanted something familiar one night. I checked the website and every time slot was available for a reservation so I decided to just pop in. This seemed to catch everyone off guard and maybe irritated them a bit, either way I felt tense and unwelcomed the entire time I sat there. Had to track down the waiter to finally place my drink order and figured I’d better place my food order at the same time. I ended up only placing that one order because I couldn’t get my waiters attention again. As I was eating I realized I probably needed to ration my cocktail to make it to the end. Food was good, but portions were a bit small by my norm. I then had to track the other waiter down to get my check just to get out of that awkward experience.

It’s unfortunate because I was looking to order several drinks and a lot of sushi for a nice “home like” meal, but instead, I walked away thinking how nice it would be to just be home. Maybe it was an off night or maybe I should have just made a reservation, but dining here was the worst experience I had over two weeks in Europe. The only star is for the food taste which was good, but just sushi. I wouldn’t seek this place out again. Walk a little further east and really...

Complete waste of air, time, money, and energy. Flee Tomo and find literally hundreds, nay thousands of better spots all around in Amsterdam. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Horribly rude blonde waitress/staff who, for some inexplicable reason, did not want us there from the start. Also I had a question whether blonde waitress in question was underage, and in which case whether restaurant was in compliance with Amsterdam laws.

Food tasted fine and wasn’t horribly priced, but left one with a terrible stomach ache after — never a great look for a red branding itself as traditional sushi.

We were there for less than an hour and kept quiet/to ourselves. That said, blonde waitress somehow decided to and found a way to insult me (again, why?).

Oh, by the way, one of the itamae (chef, in Japanese) was coughing on the fish the whole time while preparing. Not great in a post-COVID world.

Listen to those honestly reviewing Tomo with a one star. May even be too generous by...

Last Sunday 9 Feb was incredibly windy. Actually it was stormy but we took the risk and we went out for dinner at Tomo Sushi. It is located in the city centre close to Rembrandt square. It was a quiet place. Of course most of the people living in Amsterdam decided to follow the advice of the government and stayed home. We had a special dish from the chef with 18 pieces. Ideal since we were 3. I can describe the food as fresh. Maybe the fresher of all the sushi places and Japanese restaurants I have visited. We also took 3 times the Tomo menu. The miso soup was a pleasure in my mouth. The sashimi offered different types of fish and the yakis were simply delicious. The dessert seems small but it is sufficient and wonderful. Fine food. Now, the service. Quick, clean and always attentive to the customers. I love this. It was my first time there. I am curious to know how the service is when the restaurant is busy. I will definitely go again.
