Tweede Thuys — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Nice terrace and big and open so ppl not close to you. Ideal in these times. I arrived just after 4 pm on Saturday (to be exact 4:07) so couldn’t order from the lunch menu. A table right off of me 2 meters came after me and were still able to order. The reason I know is the guy was jittery and getting up from his table and I observed that with my drink. I addressed it to the waitress and she said they were seated before I was. And they were the last order for the kitchen. As said in Dutch ‘het was discutabel’. I wanted a sandwich with shrimp croquette, so explained that and mentioned that I also see the croquette on the snacks card. She agreed and said yes you can still order that you just have to do a side order of bread. I responded coyly hmmm, it’s the same thing but now I just have to pay more for the same product. I decided not to order and was waiting for another friend for a drink but was so hungry I ended up ordering fries. It was tasty a bit too much salt tho. All in all a nice place to visit but when a little iffy comes into play as above I’m inclined to kinda lay low from a place for a while based on my experience & feeling there. Besides there are enough nice terraces in that area...

One of the few places not to raise prices after covid. Great selection of drinks and food that is really a cut above what you expect (they have a good chef/owner (?). The terrace is excellent in summer, inside is cosy in winter. Ive introduced heaps of people to this place.

Edit 2024: They have raised their prices, but it seems inevitable given the rise in costs. The new lunch menu has been excellent, although a few items have been removed from the menu of a few months ago. The drinks menu has also been improved, with a better srlection of wines by the glass. What a horrible place. The food was good, but the people who worked there are beyond unfriendly. Two blond woman who are running the place where walking around with the biggest unsatisfied faces without a tiniest inch of friendliness. One of the blond ladies was so annoyed when my dear grand mother asked for some ice cubes for in her diet coke.

The other waiters where wearing t-shirts with weed signs on there back and after asking 4times for the bill, one of the blond woman, finally came with an even bigger annoyed face than she had before. What a shame for such a lovely location with fine food to have such a miserable team...
