El Grill & El Mexicano — Restaurant in Curaçao

Can’t understand how the rating is so high when so many reviews are so negative. Something not right here.When we came at 4 pm for early dinner, the hostess and waitresses were incredibly rude. The restaurant was empty, but when I asked if my husband and I could sit near the glass perimeter so we could look at the people below and enjoy the ocean breeze, they refused! Should have left then and there. It was so hot that day, She then tried to get us to sit in the sun, when I said we wanted the shade, she sat us at a middle table, with no air flow. When I saw the next table had a fan, we moved ourselves to that one. When we looked up, all three waitresses and hostess were discussing our behavior frowning and laughing at us not three feet away! Incredible! Should have left! Our really expensive drinks were good, my natchos were good, but my husband’s quesadillas were inedible. We didn’t make a fuss, we’re nice. The most incredible part was that the waitress actually gave me her card and asked us to write a review! Like I didn’t see her laughing and discussing me for being “difficult” when we tried to get a good table in the empty restaurant! My husband and I are newly retired, respectful, professionals Canadians. Never, ever, have we been treated like this....

I wish I could give negative stars! The customer service here was horrible to say the least. I ordered ribs and Cajun fries instead of regular fries. They brought me out the ribs with regular fries and a side of Cajun fries. I refused the Cajun fries because then I would have had too many fries and I knew they wouldn’t take back the regular ones since they were on the plate in front of me. The waitress then came back with a bad attitude saying you refused the fries and then proceeded to tell all of the staff about how I refused the fries. The ribs tasted horrible and were tuff. When my friend and I went to checkout the lady that came to our table said she couldn’t split the ticket and that we had to walk to front which was fine. We get to the front and proceed to tell the lady we were told she has to split the ticket and she says yes but just stands there. I then say are you going to split our ticket and she gets an attitude and finally proceeds to split our ticket. My friend did enjoy her burger. I honestly could not advise you NOT to go to this restaurant enough. I really wanted to leave a good review because the atmosphere was nice and initially the servers seemed prompt and fast. However, we waited an astounding 50 minutes just to get our food (2 dishes). We ordered almost immediately and the place wasn’t overly packed. My mother and I literally watched a couple in front of us arrive after us, and leave before we even got our food. I don’t expect lightning speed service, but come on. That wait was ridiculous. It doesn’t end there; the chips and salsa weren’t included like most traditional Mexican restaurants. Furthermore, the salsa was pitiful. We ordered salsa and we were served what tasted like literal marinara sauce. They served us what seemed to be pre-packaged guac and a fake American cheese, not even real queso! I tried so hard to give this place a chance but it was beyond disappointing. Never...
