If you are American, DO NOT COME HERE! My family came here with high hopes and no judgment, even after reading reviews that the staff were not particularly fond of anyone that isnt Dutch, and quickly realized that those reviews were unfortunetly extremely truthful. Our server, a blond lady, we believe her name is Marjan, was one of the most unprofessional waitresses I have ever seen. I have worked in the service industry as a waitress for almost 5 years and I could tell immediately that she did not like us and was being passive agressive in retaliation. It started with judgment as soon as we walked in and said "hello!", then she came over to take our drink order. My dad orded an Amstel Lite to which she snarkly said "No, its Amstel BRIGHT but ok"; then I asked for a lemonade and she gave me a little lecture about how "it is not lemonade, it is called TipTop. Lemonade is this blah blah blah". Ok. Fine. Unneccessary, but fine. She gives us our drinks, we choose what we want to order for food, it takes her a decent while before she comes back over and says "have you decided what you want to order?" "Yes we are ready" "Ok let me go get my tablet" "Ok perfect". We waited for her to get her tablet for 15 minutes. As we waited, she sparked conversations with every other table, walked in and out of the building aimlessly, and started resetting other tables that had NO ONE THERE. I knew this was petty and decided it was time to go. I walked up and asked just for the check and over 5 minutes later she sent another girl to our table with the check in a little box. She came back over to have us pay and seemed completely unsurpised that she had basically ran us out of the restaurant which only makes me wonder how many others she has done this to. Quite literally the most nasty and gross service I have ever had, especially as a server myself I know that she purposefully ignored us for no reason. Really disguisting, I would absolutely...
Read moreMy family and I were blown away about everything at this establishment! We are from the US and were seeking a dining experience that was different from our norma, and we got just that. We were immediately greeted by our server, Stephanie, and she was amazing the entire time. She was friendly, personable, proficient and gave us the most awesome welcoming feeling. Our food was just as amazing as it was advertised. I had the Caribbean Sea bass that was cooked to perfection, and my wife had the chicken pita that she expressed was delicious. Our kids had the nachos and of course the chicken nuggets lol, but both were nonetheless very satisfied. If you like calamari, then you must try it here. I have always enjoyed calamari, but the calamari served here was the best I’ve ever eaten! It was a beer-battered, which I had never experienced, and cooked to the perfect temperature. Many places tend to over cook it and it becomes a bit rubbery. But not at The Captain! You will definitely get the European/Caribbean fusion here, and will not be...
Read moreAnti-American Bias? We had a remarkably bad experience here. We stopped in for a drink and, when we asked for a cocktail menu, were told by the bartender, "No cocktails today." I looked around. There was booze a plenty behind the bar. Several other patrons had cocktails in front of them. Perplexed, I gave him a quizzical look. Then he said, "Kitchen's closed...Football only" while gesturing toward a screen showing a soccer game. This was all accompanied by something close to a hard stare. Then some patrons yelled at us because we were apparently blocking their view of the screen. It was, in short, a completely unexpected and hostile encounter. I walked out and took my group with me. Later, locals explained that some people on the island don't care for Americans. Perhaps that is what motivated the treatment, perhaps the language barrier contributed to some miscommunication but my gut told me that we were not welcome there for reasons that were not based upon anything we'd...
