Edit Sept 2024: I excitedly returned here with my family and I am very sad to say the food was not nearly as good as my first visit. Changed my rating to 4 stars but it was more 3.5. We traveled from Haarlem and I was so excited to share with new people, and the food was fine, but nothing like it was. I imagine it was a different cook than we had in December 2023. I am sure I will return as it’s still decent food, but I spent €200 on a meal that felt rather average, and nowhere near the food that warranted my excitement in my first review. The owner is lovely and I hate writing this, but the meat was dry, the pad-see-ew didn’t taste anything like what I had before - was bland, the dumplings and fish cakes were totally average and even the Thai iced tea just tasted like sugar. Please please go back to the quality you had before.
Previous review:
Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had in my life. I’m from California and have been eating Thai food forever, most of it quite authentic. This is so much better than the vast majority of what we’ve eaten. Cannot wait to go back. The owner is lovely as well. A family business. Cozy. Real food. Real people. What a gift in this country. (Admittedly it’s...
Read moreWe laugh when we pass by restaurants promising to have the best of anything - a la the "World's Best Coffee" scene in the movie Elf. However, when we visited this place in April 2023, it truly had the best thai food I have ever tasted. Street food style thai, according to the owner. I had a yellow curry dish with sweet potatoes, onions, and slow roasted chicken that was falling off the bone. My husband had the closest thing he could find to pad thai (I think it was called pad kai?) but it was more savory than the sweet pad thai we get at home (United States). Noodles were cooked perfectly. For our "after dinner mint" he instead brought out a huge bowl of "Halloween candy" - he said he always gets little mints when he eats at restaurants but he doesn't like mints. He said "I don't know what you like, so you choose!" and left the whole bowl at our table.
The service, provided by the owner, was very personable - perfect English, made us laugh - and the tiny bathroom was beautifully decorated and well-appointed (even free feminine products!).
So delicious. Would return in a heartbeat. I overheard the owner explaining that he'd open the restaurant for anyone who wanted to...
Read moreI can't believe that a restaurant with such a tacky name really lives up to it! The main manager/server/cook(!?), Jay, was absolutely a delight to interact with, with infectious positivity! Next, I felt that I might face some issues as a vegetarian trying to make my way through a Thai menu, but once I told him what I wanted in terms of ingredients, he was happy to cook up something for me just from my description! Well it was probably on the menu but I loved the spontaneity of this process. Lastly, the food is all I expect from flavorful, though slightly hot, Thai food. I ended up licking my fingers like a carefree Indian having this tasty food given to me in this welcoming atmosphere!
They have a nice card which tracks your meals, and if you get 10 meals on it, you get an extra one free! I don't know if it works but I intend...
