It took a while... but after several attempts and several take aways during covid I finally found my way back to Luzt. This time on a random tuesday we just walked in and were allowed to select a table on their roomy outside seating. After receiving our very nice cocktails we took a look at the menu. Everything on the menu sounded tasty, so we choose nothing and opted for the 3 course surprise menu with 3 half glass accompanying wines. It was just a tuesday after all...
I must mention at this point that we had been helped by two different people and had very pleasant experience with both of them. Informal, cheerful and fun. We were in a good mood too and felt very welcome and appreciated because of it, joking and having fun with our hosts.
A tasty little amuse appeared and we were served our first wine by our third host of the evening, also a very pleasant lady who interacted with us very nicely too. A vinho verde and fish starter which was beautifully presented set the tone, this was going to be a tasty evening.
Our main was accompanied by a very good primitivo and obviously the meat dish of the evening. Very tasty and good portions, this dish was also on the a la carte menu I believe. Which is a bit less of surprise but no complaints there as it was one of the best choices in my opinion.
Instead of a desert we opted for the cheese and a PX and 10 year old Tawny. Again royal portions of high quality cheeses. One of them locally sourced, two english ones and one from Italy if I recall correctly. Nice mix and some nice snacks to go with the cheese, although we weren't too enthusiastic about the glazed pecans as the grapes and marmalade provided enough sweets to go with the cheese and plain nuts would have been nicer... but now I'm just being excessively critical about an otherwise close to perfect evening.
Minor detail, table water was offered to us and refreshed without asking during the whole duration of our stay, which is nice.
We remain amazed this place can exist on 'de Markt' between the McDonalds, KFC and Five Guys. The contrast is almost surreal. Sit on de Markt but enjoy great food just like your on Dommelstraat or Kleine Berg.
Hopefully my next visit won't take 4 years!

The value for money received at Luzt is insane. We had the two (or three) person lunch platter which was absolutely packed with goodies ranging from oysters and beef to cheesy balls and sliced sausage, and much more. For almost the same price we could of crossed the market square and would been disappointed by a more traditional 'twaalf uurtje'. The waiter from Doyy tipped us about Luzt and we are very happy he did, we'll be...
Read moreI have recently ordered the valentine's menu which was delivered at home. I found the idea of enjoying a restaurant quality meal at home given the situation (corona combined with three small kids) very attractive so I went for it. I chose the vegetarian menu since I do not eat seafood. The dinner came home with a full set of arrangements: candel, rose petals, name cards, heart shaped napkins. I loved the hand written note from Luzt staff. Very thoughtful! Each dish came with instructions on how to warm it up and decorate the plate so it look just like in the pictures. I am no very skilled at edible or any kinds of art but I must say I was pleased with the end result: each dish looked reasonably similar to the pictures. I would give myself 3 stars for that ;). The desserts were the best part of the meal. I thought they were perfect and very tasty. The starter was a different take to a capresse salad. The tomatoes tasted a bit bitter (slightly overcooked) but when eaten together with the toppings the bitterness was masked and the overall taste was nicer. The butternut foamy cream was nicely fresh. I found that the amount of caramel in the crunchy nut topping was excessive and killed the freshness of the cream. I could have used less but it didn't say otherwise in the instructions to finish the dish so I used it all. Big mistake. The main was a risotto. I am a big risotto fan and I must say I was disappointed. The taste was very good and the combination of flavors was very original. The big problem was the rice. After warming it up according to the instructions it turned into a sticky paste rather than the creamy texture with full rice grains I was expecting. I suppose that maybe risotto is not the most appropriate dish to warm up at home. Overall the experience was nice and I am actually looking forward to be able to try your food at the restaurant so I can rate...
Read moreWe were excited to sit down at Luzt Gastrobar. The location is nice. The staff were very helpful and friendly. So far so good, and we knew from the reviews that the food should be good.
However, we were disappointed.
I ordered steak tartare, which had no seasoning. It didn't come with anything other than a crunchy wafer, and surprisingly, a frozen parfait on top. It was their twist on a classic dish. I wouldn't recommend this version to anyone.
There was a carpaccio that was alright. Later on we were served the tri-tip and seabass. I can safely say the fish was beautifully cooked, with a nice crispy skin. However the risotto that came with it was swimming in a watery beure rouge, making everything just a little too soupy in my opinion.
We thought that the tri-tip was too chewy. I think that if it was cut thinner, and cooked just a smidge longer, it would have been better. However, there was still a lot of fat attached to it.
The new menu doesn't seem to hold up to previous reviews and photos. For the prices they ask, I expected better quality dishes.
Full points for the cocktail ( Yellow lemon tree ) which...
