't Feithhuis — Restaurant in Groningen

I went there for a conference dinner for which we paid 50 euros per person. The staff were nice and really friendly, however the food was massively overpriced. I had advised the organizers that I was vegan beforehand. The restaurant prepared a nice yet small dish of giant couscous and perfectly cooked vegetables (see pic) separately while everyone stuffed their faces with 5 types of meat, 3 types of fish dishes and various meat starters from an open buffet. Most disappointing was the dessert, which for vegans was a salad of mostly acidic fruits (pineapple, apples) and melon, accompanied by one scoop of very sour lemon sorbet. Disgraceful. Everyone else again got a massive selection of non-vegan desserts. It wouldn't have been hard to bake a nice vegan chocolate cake or any other cake for that matter, especially given the buffet style dinner. Meh- the food looks amazing but disappoints on taste. Its edible but gives little enjoyment. I remember when it was one of the best places to eat. Now it’s trying to be haute cuisine with its small portions and pointless garnishes but it’s slightly better than eating cardboard. I had the roasted celeriac with chestnut cream but all i could taste were the hazelnuts. The celeriac was an undercooked , hard and flavourless as a hockey puck. I chose the rump-steak with porcini - i have no idea what they did, i didnt think it possible to drain flavour from Porcini but somehow they succeeded. The steak was ok. The fries were very good but the portions of everything was tiny and the prices expensive for what you get. Maybe i was unlucky with the chef tonight? But...

Waiting staff? What waiting staff? We gpt your drink orders? wrong. You are going to have what we serve you sir, not what you ordered. And you neither madam. We´re sure you´ll like it and most certainly not lower our ridiculously high price for your drink because of our mistake, no be glad we don't charge you for the wrong one we brought you.

And then they wonder why we leave after one drink, after 'lingering'. The lingering has to do with the fact we couldn't get anyone to come and bring us the bill.
