I walked in with a package, and the server that opened the door only moved out of the way when I waved at my White Dutch friend inside. The server that took our orders, even when she wasn't writing down anything, looked down and rarely met my eyes, so I felt very unwelcome. Later the service seemed friendlier, but it definitely ruins the mood when you just got there. As for the food: the pancakes are very fluffy but pretty flavorless, the toppings (for the Wake n Bake pancake) were sparse and cheap. And €4.5 for 100-150ml of orange juice served in tiny tables where there's only room for the pancake plates but not anything else -unless you put it on the sides, therefore no resting your forearms on the table- seemed steep. The decaf cap I drank was served with new cutlery and a new bottle of maple syrup, but no sugar/sweeteners. The tiny tables PLUS the music make it so that you have to speak VERY loudly to your companion(s), and there should be a designated (small) children-friendly area, so that other diners can choose to sit further away from them. If the restaurant is successful and tiny, they should tone the music down, and the servers need to learn that there's more to being welcoming than how...
Read moreI go here every week. It's always delicious and it's the most affordable, most beautifully instagrammaable breakfast place in Groningen. They change the menu every few months so there's always something new to try. The pancakes are so good i usually get the same favorite for weeks in a row. They have a few non pancake, sandwich type options that are great too. Good choices for vegetarians. You can't stop eating the amazing crack pie. It's very family friendly, and the wait staff are super nice to everyone. Only downsides? In the summer it's next to a side alley the drunks use, so it can get a bit smelly if eating on the terrace. They can't completely get rid of it but ive seem them washing and deodorizing before opening, so they're trying. In the winter when the terrace is closed it's still super popular so it can be hard to get a walk in spot. Reservations are highly...
Read moreWe came here for brunch for the second time as a family, and once again, it was a lovely experience. The atmosphere is cozy and unique, definitely stands out from other places in town!
The pancakes are massive and packed with flavor. I’m confident that anything you pick from the menu will be good (depending on your tastes). That said, my salty pancake with bacon and cheese was a bit underwhelming. It felt too dry, and the bacon was a bit overcooked. I added some maple syrup, which helped, but I think a dedicated sauce would really elevate this dish and bring out its full potential.
I would also suggest to add a salty/sweet tag next to each pancake dish on the menu, might make it easier to understand which is which when choosing :)
Aside from that, everything else was excellent and we will...
