Café Willem Albert — Restaurant in Groningen

Food: Always love coming here for brunch/lunch. They have a big menu with loads of options, also lots of vegetarian options. Warm and cold options and plenty of beverages to choose from. Every time I come here the food is of great quality. My favorite is definitely the homemade kibbeling and the lemonades. My husband loves the market burger. Oh and the coffees are great too. Love the salted caramel cappuccino with whipped cream!

Service: Staff is always very friendly and helpful. You never have to wait long for food or drinks (mind you were here on a busy Saturday and still there's not a long waiting time). So service at this place is always great.

Atmosphere: Today we sat outside cause the weather is lovely. On the forum side it's quieter and so that's my preferred side. Tables aren't too close together so you can actually have a conversation without feeling like the neighbouring table can join in at any second. But from previous experiences inside is also great. It's got a lovely decor, comfy chairs and even though it can get busy it's designed well with nooks and tables far enough apart that It still feels private. However when it's full you probably won't find me here because then it can get a bit loud and busy and as a neurodivergent person that makes it hard for me to enjoy my time.

The restaurant is great-really big, so you don't have to sit packed in like sardines, grasping for air like in many other places in Groningen (especially during Saturday lunch). The decor is Great Gasby elegant and the sitting spaces are comfortable. Services was very quick and friendly despite it being extremely busy that day. The service robot is very cute. Now onto the food - I ordered the Chef's lunch and it was just mediocre. Very run-of-the-mill, definitely not made fresh on the spot meal. Soup was ok but lukewarm, bread tasted like a supermarket cardboard nothing, omelett was cold and the beef croquette tasted cheap. For this (high) price you can get much better lunches in many other spots in Gro. I also got chocolate- it was served beautifully and very tasty. But not tasty enough for me to come back...

Lovely café and restaurant with a lively atmosphere and relatively fast service.

However, today's experience was disappointing. After ordering a veggie snack platter (with meat alternatives), we were served snacks containing meat. After addressing this, we were first told we had received the vegetarian option. Only after further asking did the waitress acknowledge that there was indeed meat within the snacks. The waitress came back with a new, significantly smaller platter with vegetarian options.

These kinds of mistakes can happen. However, I would have appreciated more sensitivity and accountability from the café. Further, other than a "sorry" from the waitress, we did not receive any form of compensation to be forthcoming to us as guests, who trust they receive what they order and what is stated...
