The most unfriendly staff (at least some of the waiting staff, the waiters in the first shift are actually quite nice) in the city. The restroom stinked really bad the other day and the smell gets over all the tables close to the area of the restroom, very unpleasant while eating and drinking of course (do not sit in the back if you go). The selection of beer is good but the place is not worthy. There were also some small leaks from the ceiling due to rain (!).
If you manage to find a spot during busy hours on Friday and Saturday, keep in mind that there is a nonsensical policy of not splitting the bill at the end. Actually, even at the same table some people would still be able to pay their share without problems while leaving early, whilst other would not, (despite whatever is wrtitten on the menu) so this policy depends more or less on how they feel at the moment (or if they like you or not, I guess).
This completely abysmal and ridiculously non customer-friendly policy is enforced because, and I quote "otherwise there are discussions on people leaving last saying that the others already paid". The problem is that to be honest this policy sort of deters me to go back so this whole marketing strategy should be rethought if the point is not losing money.
In any case, whoever pays would now need to spend the next several days trying to get the money back from several people, which is fine if you are two but imagine if you are like 15 and who is paying probably needs to cover for hundreds of euros, it does not make any sense. Limited food options. Most pub in the areas have a similar beer selection, a friendlier staff and let you split the bill. Better...
Read moreWe were lucky, and our server was a real expert in beers. He spent more than 5 full minutes explaining the differences between them, the brewing methods, how they affect the taste and which ways, etc. He asked general questions about my taste and then recommended specific beers that I would like. He said he knew about 4000 different types of beers that he had tasted. It was a very informative and pleasant experience. The atmosphere was vibrant and the place is well located. Highly...
Read moreBroad selection of beers, I'm inclined to say the most variety in town! Though it is not what I would consider cheap and it is absolutely packed during the busy hours it is a great place to catch up or mingle with the more "adult" crowd in Groningen. They also have a nice selection of cheeses, fried food, and meats to accompany their drinks; drinks which are often served in their own unique glass, adding to the...
