I had the pleasure of visiting Luhu in Groningen recently, and it was truly one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had in a café. What makes Luhu so special isn’t just the delicious coffee and cosy atmosphere, it’s the amazing team that runs it. All the staff are deaf, and they bring such warmth, professionalism, and care to everything they do.
From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. The ordering process is smooth and inclusive, whether you know sign language or not, everything is designed to make communication easy and enjoyable. There are even books there to help you learn sign language. It’s inspiring to see a space that celebrates accessibility and gives visibility to the deaf community in such a positive and empowering way.
The drinks and treats were great but more than anything, I left Luhu feeling uplifted by the sense of community and respect that fills the place.
Whether you’re a local or just visiting Groningen, Luhu is absolutely worth a stop. It’s more than a café, it’s a beautiful example of how inclusion can...
Read moreThis place is amazing for people who need to get away from the sounds of daily life. Amazing for deaf or hard of hearing people. Also for people with sensory issues as it is a very calming environment with little to no sounds. This place is amazing to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and desserts. It’s is comfortable with lots of seating options and is also perfect for a quiet study environment. Or if you just need to get away from all the sounds. I’m hard of hearing and this place has been a life saver for me if I had an overstimulated week.. 10/10 recommend. There’s nothing wrong with this place they made...

Its not going amazing but I definitely have mastered "haver melk". Btw you're not expected to order in sign language, pointing and nodding gets you very far as well ❤️. But you're also reminded of the fact that you should not always expect others to adapt to you if you can also do it yourself. It makes me happy that this...
