Wereldburgers — Restaurant in Groningen

This is a takeaway review, but equally valid, as the food was well below expectations. This was a shame, as I was excited about trying food said to be truly lovely. We ordered a Maxima, well done, and a Dutch. What we received were a pair of undercooked patties which appeared to be flavored with cumin or another oriental spice. A well done party is not red in the centre. The chimchurri sauce had rough, large pieces of garlic rather than crushed ones within, which was a shame as the actual sauce tasted nice and fresh. The bun was soaking wet, and had no flavour. Moreover, the wedges tasted of cardboard, and were dry. Onion was barely above raw. Hardly the flavorsome burger I expected. It was not cooked to specification and was clumsy, which I was very surprised by. If I was a professional critic eating in the restaurant itself at the time , back to the kitchen it would have gone. Overpriced and underwhelming. Perhaps it was an order that did not receive normal attention, or the chef had a bad service. It happens and I'm willing to take another look, but for now I'm understandably unimpressed. I'm hoping to try again at the actual restaurant to give them a second chance, but takeout from a good restaurant should not be so...

Dining at Wereldburgers is an experience that transcends the idea of a casual burger restaurant. On my first visit with friends I ordered the homemade fries with truffle mayonnaise, expecting a pleasant side dish, but what I encountered was extraordinary. Each fry was golden and crisp on the outside, tender within, and the truffle mayonnaise was so irresistible that I momentarily forgot all sense of restraint and simply surrendered to the flavor. These may well be the best fries in Groningen. The atmosphere is authentic and vibrant, the staff are warm and attentive, and the service feels personal rather than transactional. Last place to go with family. Despite impossible waiting times and baby crying, not given a normal table but had to stay with the a high table. They gladly cancelled order when asked if our order can be expedited as waited already half an hour showing baby is getting uncomfortable. No customer would have no problem waiting a bit more to allow a family getting their food. My 1 star goes to not only pace and quality of service but also to staff as human being with zero empathy capabilities. I hope you face exact same situation when you have child of your own and understand how frustrating it is to wait an order half an hour with no warning and got told it wasn't even in the next batch while your baby is crying...
