Toko Semarang — Restaurant in Groningen

Tucked-away, old-school Indonesian restaurant (toko) doing the cuisine real justice. We decided to come here on a whim because another (trendy) place had sold out of everything, and thank God we did. We ordered the monthly menu special, which came with a large selection of different dishes. Each one exceeded our expectations, including the sweet, umami daging semoor, the creamy and warmly-spiced ayam rudjak, and the spicy sambal goreng dishes; all amazing quality. Hands down the best in Groningen... I highly recommend! When they were still in their old location, it was the only 'takeaway' I would ever have. But eating there is also possible, especially in this location. I've left Groningen (Netherlands even) years ago, but being back for a few days, this food was on my Must Do List. And it still is brilliant. Vegetarian nasi rames and I had some sambal udang and peteh as well. Everything was perfect and I ate every last bit of it. The food was rather good however they did heat it up in the microwave but it still tasted good. I'd say the prices are decent but when we wanted to pay for our meals they charged us a euro extra compared to what's on the menu and apparently that's because the prices changed but it wasn't updated on the menu and they didn't inform us beforehand which was rather unfortunate.
