Huize Maas — Restaurant in Groningen

The food here is always quite good, but today at lunch the service was appalling. I asked for a 'Hertog Jan Dubbel' beer with my lunch and the waitress replied "Well, we only serve that by the pint... I don't know if you'd like to get drunk already, but..." in a rather condescending tone of voice. Now I am not one to allow people to ruin my mood, but the bad tone was quickly set. I ended up ordering a regular pilsener, to the apparent satisfaction of said waitress. Though she didn't explicitly deny me anything, having worked as a waitress before I'm of the opinion that staff shouldn't question a relatively normal order, unless the person ordering is considered unable to make a sound decision. The food (pictured, prawn 'kroket' with fries) was fine, not too special, but the service or lack thereof took away most of my respect...

I was there on a Sunday morning and the place was almost empty. There were 5 waitresses and even though there was almost no one it was insanely slow and the waitresses never came to our table to help us out. It was awfully long and frustrating. The burgers are not good and I was not full afterwards. My friend got a club sandwich and he did not even finish it. The ingredients were not fresh and there was no taste. Additionally, it came with a small portion of chips. 5 minutes before, I had seen the chef (with the greasiest hair I have ever seen) eat the chips directly from the store-bought pack and put his hands ungloved in them repeatedly instead of making the food we were waiting for. The staff is not nice at all. We were at the concert room. They forced us to leave our coats downstairs even though the place was almost empty and there were a lot of tables where we could have left them. We couldn't pay for our drinks at the bar, we had to go downstairs and buy some "coins" like if it was a massive festival. That system is terrible for small parties! And finally, the party ended 2 hours before than what the tickets said, so they closed the bar, didn't allow us to use our remaining coins and didn't allow us to get the cash back either. When we went to take our coats, they made a mistake with my girlfriend's coat number and returned the wrong one.
