Café De Uyl van Hoogland — Restaurant in Leiden

A few weeks my mother and I were outside this establishment with drinks from a previous pub. Our plan was to finish them outside and then enter to purchase drinks from the pub, as the rest of our group was already inside enjoying their drinks. However, the reaction from the staff was appalling.

Workers came out and aggressively shouted at my mother. Despite us apologizing and explaining the situation, the rude and hostile behavior continued. When my mother was leaving on her own, a male staff member approached her again and shouted at her, which was both intimidating and unnecessary. This issue is quite worrying.

We fully understand the rules and acknowledged our mistake, but there was no reason for such aggressive behavior. A calm and respectful conversation would have been more than enough. This experience left us deeply upset and...

I went there just for a cozy friday night with my friend, I am just an international student at leiden and wanted to drink a beer or two. We sat down in a table and wanted to go out for a smoke and we left our stuff there. When we come back we saw there was three Dutch men sitting in our place. We warned them first but they said very bad words to us. Then I went to the bar manager and he sided with them saying the seats can be taken if we leave even just for a smoke and we put our stuff there. He did not believe anything I said as I believe because I could not speak Durch or was not white and blonde like him. So this is a WARNING for international people DO NOT go to this place. Best pub in leiden, amazing barkeeper lets you change the music if you have a good suggestion. The locals are very friendly and talkative. A great and rotating selection of special beers. They also have a fair selection of spirits and distilled drinks, which is very nice. On important matchdays they will show sports like football. Out of every pub I've visited in Leiden, I find myself coming back here every week. I've been coming here for many years and it's still the best...
