Fat Phill's Leiden — Restaurant in Leiden

THEY TRIED TO SCAM ME! Absolute horrible experience never go here! I ordered my food, waited one and a half hours on a Saturday night. Called to the restaurant only for them to tell me that the food has already been delivered. I tell them that it isn't and they promise to call be back. 20 minutes after I call them back because I wasn't hearing from them. The delivery guy comes to my house, finally.. At this point I am still in a phone call with the restaurant and in front of me the delivery guy had the audacity to say that he did come to my house and gave me the food. Which never happened! I tried to tell them both that I have never seen this guy ever in my life. But they don't agree. Delivery guy writes to google translate "I am coming to you" ???. At this point I didn't tell them yet that when I made the order I looked outside my window entire time waiting for my food. Eventually the delivery guy leaves because he had no business here, no food, nothing. The guy in the restaurant starts accusing me of scamming the restaurant and says that they have done their part and not sending anymore food. I start raging and I told that I looked outside the window this entire time, no one ever came. I told that it's outrageous that I paid 21e for food which I have waited for one and a half hours and now they are not giving me anything. Eventually the guy in the restaurant agrees to deliver me the food again but puts my address into a blacklist, "if this happens again I never send you food again". Well, you don't need to be worried, because I am never ordering here again. No apologizing, no compensations, nothing. Just purely the worst experience you can imagine having. Really, think twice...

We ordered here from Uber eats on a Saturday evening. We made the order around 8.15 pm, and the app said we would have waited ~15-35 minutes. It was Saturday evening, so we knew it was probably gonna be more time, and we were ok with it. The problem was that at 9.30pm the food was still not delivered. So we called the restaurant and we were told that the rider was coming. After a bit, the rider called us, not speaking any English but only a very chaotic dutch. We tried to make him in contact with a dutch friend of us who was there, but still the rider was chaotic and mad, shouting just the word "OUTSIDE". We were not even sure he was in the right place, as no one rang the doorbell. Then my boyfriend tried to catch him up. After 2 minutes (my bf was already going downstairs), the rider finally rang the doorbell, and the only things he was able to say were indistinguishable shouting curse against me. He had a very violent attitude, and he concluded leaving my food ON THE FLOOR OUTSIDE and wishing me cancer (my dutch friend got that). When my boyfriend finally met him downstairs, he was trying to ask him what was the matter, but the guy was still cursing and shouting, so I also shouted my bf to just pick up the food from the floor and run away because the rider could be dangerous. This was the most awful experience ever with a rider, and I think this is unacceptable! To conclude, our burgers were cold and incredibly smashed! As if someone had sat down on them. I'll never order again from this place, and I hope you will hire better people...

As an American in Leiden, I figured I needed to provide my expert opinion on what Google claimed was a place serving American cuisine. With a name like Fat Phill’s (extra L at the end isn’t very American but still a good name) it’s definitely descriptive of what many Americans would eat on a regular, possibly too frequent, basis. Hamburgers are one of my favorite foods, so I’m a self-proclaimed expect on good burgers. The burger had an unusual taste. Not bad, just not what an American burger would taste like. Probably due to the different beef in use and where that beef was raised and what it was fed. Growing up in Kansas, I’ve been around cattle ranches my whole life. So maybe I’m spoiled. Anyway, the burger was okay. The bun and condiments were good. The lettuce, tomatoes and pickle looked pretty fresh. The fries were a bit soft/soggy but I was coming in probably a bit after the lunch rush and probably got fries that had been cooked earlier and just keeping warm. But they weren’t bad at all. Still good.

The service was very friendly, as is all of the service I’ve experienced in Leiden.

The atmosphere was nice. American hip hop music was playing, which always seems interesting in other countries. I’m not a fan of hip hop, but it definitely has a global allure for many people. Better than the American rap that was playing at a nearby clothing store. It was dropping the N-word constantly. Not something a store full of white employees would want to do in the States. But Fat Phill’s kept it...
